This is my 1st time leaving a comment. The one thing I don’t underdstand is if you are a mets fan why would u not want to know about players in the amateur draft. These are the players we will rooting for in the years to come. All i ever read about is how bad of a job alderson is doing or what a joke murph will be at 2nd base. Am I the only one that believes the mets will not be as bad as everyone thinks. They aren’t going to win the division but I don’t think they will come in last also. Root for your team and everything that goes with it don’t trash it. Especially on march 1st when we haven’t even played a spring training game.

Alex, how’s it going? Been busy with work, but I just wanted to say that I like these posts on the draft. When we had the shoutbox and before the moneyballers showed up me and a few others used to spend hours some nights just chatting about prospects and the draft. Those were the good old days. Even if you had a case of insomnia and were up at 3AM there would always be a few people to talk baseball with in there.

Lets go back and count the last 25-30 post on MMO and decide how much time is devoted to the minors.

Also, again that interest has peaked all over baseball not just with the Mets. There are 1,000′s of people last year that for the first time signed up to be able to watch the minor leagues live as part of the MLBTV package. You think all of those were Mets and A’s fans?

Besides, here at MMO every comment section turns into the same thing anyway.

TRS86, is one thing to anticipate the arrival of players like gooden and straw, and reyes and wright, but to talk ALL DAY everyday about minor leaguers, draft picks, prospects, what is brandon nimmo eating today? is zack wheeler tweeting? etc it’s not the way it used to be, even on the years we sucked i never saw this little attention to the majors and as much to the minors, and reason is we as fans knwo that the major league club have 0 shot to compete with equal or superior teams.. and it goes back to the mentality the GM is trying to install on fans, We are not signing jose reyes, we’re getting draft picks and hope in 3 or 4 years they can come up and contribute, and if not, in 3 or 4 years more we’ll do the same…

And I’m saying that until recently, this much info and analysis was not available the way it is today. It has nothing to do with a guy mentioned in a book you’ll never read.

Thanks to the internet (you may have heard of it), there are many more avenues and sources of information for people to explore. Even MLB is making a bigger deal about amateur and minor league players. MiLB.com is almost on par with the main site and they broadcast the draft live on MLBTV.

Paying attention to the minors helps fans identify with players. They get to see them grown and ascend and have a greater attachment to them now.

Don’t try to twist my words you FSB… I have always said that Petey is my favorite writer here in MMO and i thanked him for what he does here, nick is kinda shadowing the same and does a good job imo, i am saying that BEFORE this regime with 3 GM who can’t do anything right in office we seem to be conceiting the season hoping the kids developed into something good to see if we can compete
