When is this Future you guys keep talking about?

7 Years from now?
Is that why Reyes for 6 is not worth it?

Is that the plan to not spend for 7 years?

Or is it to not spend until Santana and Bay come off the books in which case would have coincided just PERFECTLY with Reyes getting a 5 Mil raise and then three more years at his full rate!

I have to say getting something good for 6 years at any price is better than getting nothing for two years 18 Mil!

Reyes got 6/106 M. These guys got 1 -2 at 18 M.

Not even close to the same thing no matter how you slice and dice it.

Divide that 18 MIl those 7+ ERA pitchers are getting by Two…
Whats Reyes make per year the next two years?

Hmmm for the SAME PRICE the next two years you could have filled:
Leadoff position
Shortstop
And did it with a batting champ base stealing all star!

And there is still no guarantee that we won’t eventually pay more than that 106 mil by the time we finish paying all these scrubs in 6 years time!

You see you washed out on what you got compared to what Reyes is making, And yes while he gets more in year three (only 16 MIl a measly 5 Mil raise from last year) in year three and promises of 20+ Mil after that….
According to everyone who feels the PAYROLL FLEXIBILITY is going to be there in three years to buy what you want what Reyes would be making really wouldn’t be an issue then would it?

Because Santana and Bay would be off the books by then!

SO all this crap about a long term view is just that it’s crap!
Long term view would have been to win with what you got and keep Reyes at the discount for the next two years and hope those kids fix the attendance enough, or keep fans interested enough to sit through the purging of Bay and Santana instead of this lets not get reyes and buy short term scubs with the money we saved!

Your point is our 3 guys in the pen over the time their here for won’t return close to what Reyes will over the next two years and your absolutely right. No question about it but hopefully we can do something much more positive with the 85M 3, 4 and 5 years from now. Maybe we will, maybe we won’t. Maybe the Wilpon’s will send that money to Picard who knows but we won’t until then so it’s not a fair comparison in my opinion.

In the best of all possible worlds we spend that 85 M on an aces and get 3 supplemental round picks from Francisco, Ramirez and Rauch and hit on all 3. Big.

Either way we’ll just have to see.

And don’t give me you usual crap that we couldn’t get him for the deal the Marlins did because they did get him for that much!

So you blew Reyes’ salary on three guys with a 7+ ERA traded a .270 CFer to help pay for that as well and ALl are gone in two years forcing you to start over exactly where you left off this offseason!
Only 20 Mil down and no more assets to sell off to replace them!

I have only judged Sandy based on the moves he has made and so far they aren’t very good and have nothing to do with the future of this organizations success!

A one year deal is a not about the FUTURE it is about the NOW!

And I have no problems with playing for the NOW provided it is to WIN NOW not just tread water now!

We aren’t close enough to play WIN NOW…
So these one year signing are not about winning ANYTIME! They are merely about saving money and I will give sandy credit for building for the future once he gets someone here who is about winning in that future and he had better get more than just Wheeler of it will never happen!

Though we agree with many of the points you raised, should the Mets indeed become a competitor for many years to come due to what Sandy has done – or didn’t do – I will be the first to admit I was wrong in my assessment of his methods and/or the front office staff he put together and will lead the pack in tribute to his long-term planning.

There is nothing so terrible about admitting one was wrong.

Defend a GM based on the notion that he may not have been able to make those fixes despite the fact it is HIS JOB to find a way to fix it!

But forget about what he ignored, that list is long and distinguished…

You questioned Only Rauch but you don’t have some regrets about the Pagan Trade who was a young solid better hitting CF that Torres or Hairston and under team control for awhile and your fine with the signing of Francisco who appears to be the second coming of Armando Benitez?

Your happy with the fact that in two years the majority of Sandy’s work and focus has been on rebuilding a BullPen that was identified as the weakest link last year and so far his three key changes there have a combined average ERA of 7+?

We have needed a catcher since BEFORE Sandy got hired, yet not even a whiff of looking for one.
We didn’t really NEED a CF until he traded away a young decent hitting one to get and old injured CF and a Reliever whio has done squat so far! Please tell us which one of them makes us contenders in the future as many of the Sandy folks suggest is the goal with our moves?

The majority of people you argue with have less opinions about Sandy himself than we do for the rantings of those who say he is here to do one thing that will make us good when the ACTIONS to date say he is not even doing what you THINK he is doing!

He sure hasn’t stacked the Minors with Kids he got Wheeler and thats about it from a stacking perspective, the others are all just draft picks that are being accelerated as better than what we have MERELY because Sandy took them not someone else!

The only FUTURE move made so far is the acquisition of Wheeler, the rest are all one year signings that do NOTHING for the future and this notion he is going to get something in trade for a bullpen arm/non-closer with a 7+ ERA is pure fantasy considering you got Squat for K-Rod who at least was all star material!

You claim cutting payroll helps the future but the truth is not committing long term HURTS the future not just the short term future but the long term!

Which big FA is going to want to come here knowing that he is going to be the only star because our philosophy is focused around only having two big contracts on the payroll at any given time?

If you believe in this philosophy of Sandy’s then you really are a Sandy guy no matter how much you question a move made here or there!
If you believe he has succeeded after losing more games from when he took over then again your applauding the man not the results!

Some are more interested in supporting Alderson than they are with the results of his work!

I think that Sandy should have been more active in molding the bench, the starting pitching depth, and the CF situation. I do however realize that saying he should have done those things and being able to do those things are two different stories. I also think he rushed the Rauch signing unless he really saw something there that he believed would benefit the team.

So tell us which moves this offseason did you HATE?

And yes 99% of the people here pass this test…It’s really only 4 or 5 knuckleheads who are very vocal and post a lot making it appear like more people really like Sandy than actually do!

The majority are wait and see folks…The others merely question the moves that were made and the construct of this team!

It’s that VERY SMALL MINORITY who gets all bent out of shape and acts like Bruce Cutler the second someone brings up something that could be a detriment on Sandy’s report card!

Or suggests he may not be the best manager in the MLB!
