Thanks Agee, but i think this kid may be for real. Not much Hr production (7 each past 2 yrs) but good triple production...and a markedly improved OBP this past year. Maybe the year was a fluke. i guess we shall see. He seems near-ready for MLB to me.

Valdespin has things to work on that Tejada's already figured out but Valdespin's upside is better at both the plate and at SS. Tell you the truth I can very easily see Valdespin at SS and Tejada and Havens sharing 2B with Tejada also being the backup SS but that's only if Valdespin gets control of the plate and picks up his consistency in the field.

LFer, not much power, very small walk totals, basically is totally dependent on balls getting through or dropping in to keep up the average or it will sink like a rock.

Showed a little something in the first half of 2010 at Savannah but lost it on the mid season promotion to St. Lucie. 2011 has been his only good full season.

I really like him but a lot of people think he's ultimately a 4th or 5th OFer and even back up CF is sketchy. He originally was a SS and I would really love it if he play 2B/SS/3B/LF/RF as a bench player but full time in LF it's probably not going to be safe to consider him a long term solution but I'd give him a good long look there in 2013 just to make sure Bay's option doesn't vest if nothing else.

Seems to me we've got some solid middle IF prospects in Reese Havens and Jordany Valdespin. But Havens hasn't had a full season yet over 4 years with 792 total ABs. Valdespin has booked 1,492 Abs over 5 seasons, with some time last year in AAA, with decent #s. So, Reese has got to stay healthy and i'd say he's a half-step behind Jordany at this juncture.
One puzzle i don't get, is why isn't Juan Lagares touted more on MMO? The guy had a breakout season last year, with an outstanding stint at Binghamton and also a decent showing in the AFL. And he'll be 23 in March. Not one of our better 'near-ready' prospects? Why not?

I really like Havens as the 2B of the near future. Heck, he could earn the job out of ST depending on how Murphy does defensively.

Reese would have been up with the Mets 2 years back when Castillo went down, if his rib issue hadn't flared up at the worst possible time.

so if he shows he is 100% physically in ST, he deserves a shot at winning the job based on production.

no idea what is going to shake out at SS though beyond this year, but will be interesting to see how well Tejada can cement himself into the job, and if anyone else is going to develop behind him to actually challenge him for it.

Duda, I have been high on him for years. I remember reading about him that he had a wrist injury back in college that sapped his power, and he developed into an all-around type hitter while recovering from it. It took a few years until he finally got to thinking about turning on inside pitches and driving the ball, but when he did, the HRs and power came. But what makes him special is he still knows how to be a complete hitter (taking outside pitches to LF, shortening up the swing with 2 strikes, etc.

Anyway, once he got a regular job at mid season, over the 2nd half (80 games) he put up some seriously good numbers, and they included a lot of big hits.

I think he is going to have a monster year with the bat. Just wish they would get Bay the hell out of the way and put Lucas in LF.

Tejada has long been under-rated by many MMO regulars, but the kid has talent, has filled in for the great Reyes and will play this year as a 22 yr old. He's a good-fielding SS and he's a good and improving hitter, that will hit more doubles as he matures. i think we should give the kid a break.

I thought Ruben Tejada did exceptionally well last season. He batted .280 in the majors at 21 years old. Valdespin is 2 years older and batted .280 in the minors, the other two not even in A ball. Maybe Tejada is the SS of the present and future.
