I think Evan running out of options while there was no room for him on the big club also had a little something to do with it.

Along with him not really being all that unique. He's a right handed contact hitter with very little pop and no position. Those are not very hard to find. We've already got a guy like that in Josh Satin.

The traditional people hardly post here anymore. I came here in 2006 and had a good time discussing BASEBALL and having fun.

This garbage of diminishing the importance of an athlete's accomplishments and trivializing things that have been the foundation of this sport, and all this scientific date takes all the fun out of the game. And it doesn't mean people who know the game don't understand what's going on cuz we do.

Let this site cater to the saber people know - that's not my baseball

sure, getting a name wrong? No problem

Accidentally claiming Ruben Tejada has F-Mart's arthritic knee condition? Sure no problem buddy we all understand, everyone makes 'em

I noticed a couple of other oversites or missteps here lately too that were politely corrected.

Accidentally taking a BA for an OBP?
BAYONNE YOU DUMB MOTHER! HOW DARE YOU LIE!!!! YOU DID THAT INTENTIONALLY, YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BASEBALL!!

They can ISO, OBP, and WAR themselves to death here cuz i don't care anymore what the hell happens around here or with the team anymore. No more wasting time taking away from my work. I can watch baseball with my friends and enjoy it my way.

Putting .ISO's and stupid slash lines for minor league players a casual observer can't even evaluate or learn about them here anymore. Everybody has to be indoctrinated now before moving further

They can take this saber and sandy and OBP stuff and shove it for all i care. It's STUPID baseball and I want no part of it. OBP over BA - how DUMB. I've got better things to do.

Valdespin is the most athletic middle infielder we have at or close to the Majors. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tejada move to 2B next year and plenty of SS's improve their fielding even after getting up here.

As for catcher between 1995 and 2010 we took selected exactly 1 catcher with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick Brook Fordyce 3rd rnd. Players can come from any draft position but the guys with the best chances are usually taken before the guys with the less than best chances plus you have to keep your best picks if you want to get the best players, something we have rarely done during this 15 year period.

Many teams get top flight catching prospects from IFA. Jesus Montero, Gary Sanchez, Rosario, Ramos, Miguel Montero, Ruiz, Bethencourt. Lots of guys especially in Venezuela. We signed Jesus Flores in 2003, Pena in 2006, Cordero in 2008 and Ruiz in 2011. Cordero is possibly a better prospect right now then Centeno and Maron's worth keeping an eye on in Savannah but the best way to attack this problem is to sign a couple top notch IFA's every single year and spend a few early round draft choices as well.

Last year Boston drafted the guy I was hopeing for Blake Swihart a switch hitting catcher who is thought to be an outstanding choice for RF if he doesn't look like he'll make it behind the plate. So if your early round catcher turns into a good RFer what's wrong with that?

Got to sign and draft the best one's once in a while though or you'll have your pitching staff throwing to a new one every year.

He has played both. Last year though he was playing shortstop when his onslaught at the plate began and some were trying to say that the Mets finally letting him go back to short gave him an extra incentive at the plate (although I'm not really buying that)

The sad thing is Stefan Welch was a minor league free agent and left for the Pirates so our "second best first base prospect" isn't even part of the organization anymore.
