Way too lofty to me. Honestly I think he looks more comparable to an Alex Cora than a Edgardo Alfonzo. Don't take that as a slight either. Cora was a very decent ball player who also came in young. Never had great speed or much power but was a solid hitter, fielder and an intelligent player.

Here is my projection for Tejada...

If he grows into his body (he's only what 21 this year?) he could have the potential to be like Edgardo Alphonso only with a little less HR pop!
His frame could support another 10 Pounds and if it's 10 pound of Muscle he could easily add that HR pop in time.
He patient at the plate has a good level swing and a good fielder with good instincts.
All traits that made Alphonso a good player

Wright wasn’t the guy that dropped a bunt down and ran off the field to keep his numbers compiled"

yeah, i am sure the guy going 7-11 in his last 3 games to raised his avg from 329 to 337 had nothing to do with that right!? ohh, and by the way, if there's a met who keeps numbers in his head is david wright, if not, go and look up that interview with joe beningo where he corrects beningo about how many rbi's he had ..

I'm saying the people that always get offended when Wright gets attacked, are the ones that are always looking for anything to attack Reyes for. I've seen people try to paint him as a greedy, selfish, lazy, injury risk, player, when he's done nothing but good things for this franchise. Actually, calling him greedy, selfish ect, would be attacking him as a person. And look what Bayonne said about Wright, he said he's a numbers compiler, which is the same thing your saying about Reyes - So, ya, it is the same thing.

And there are no legit issues with his batting title at all. He won it fair and square - He played within the rules, unlike like the other guy he beat out for the title. And he was injured at times during the 2nd half, so of course his numbers aren't going to be the same as they were when he was 100% healthy. Plus, it wasn't like his numbers were bad either in the 2nd half - He still played good.

So, I've never complimented Reyes? Is that what you are saying?

Am I not allowed to criticize a player? Do you think there are no legit issues about his batting title?

Look at the drop off from the 1st to 2nd half last season. Where were those extra base hits? Where were the stolen bases?

Look at that final at bat. That was the definition of stat padding.

I've never insulted Reyes the way some people need to insult Wright. I've defended Reyes plenty of times. I just don't like how the end of 2011 went. But, I don't say nasty things about him as a person or how hard he plays or things lie that. I don't call him a POS or anything like that.

So, toss that moral equivalence garbage because it doesn't apply.

Slap hitting batting title? SMH.

You know, you guys do the same thing your mad at Bayonne for doing about Wright. You slam Reyes every chance you get, and you forget all the good things he's done for this team. He's the Mets all time leader in steals, 3B's, and RS, a three time allstar, and the Mets very 1st batting champ. And he's a guy who played his heart out for this team, he was the most exciting player for this team in recent years, and maybe the most exciting in the majors - I can't believe how some fans talk about him now - It's shocking.

Recognizing that player projection is an art not a science I would rate the ceiling for the Mets big four with Mejia as being the only pitcher with the refinement of three pitches to grade out as a potential true ace # 1 starter, I would put Wheeler and Familia as potential 1A starters with Familia having the best fastball in the system, and I would grade out Harvey's upside as a 1B or 2 starter. Familia is up against the same bias that Duda had to contend with, he is a late bloomer (had a breakout year after a so so year) but what the scouts don't seem to give him credit for is that the reason he had an off year two years ago is because his fastball significantly jumped in velocity so he had to adjust everything as a result. I hope they all become aces but I am a bit concerned that Harvey had the bad year at UNC. Is he another Pelfrey that is either on all year or off all year or is he someone that is going to learn from his mistakes and not have any bumps in the road. Too early to know although the fact that he worked on his sinker in the offseason is a very good sign. Nimmo is being greatly underrated. The numbers that Sickels projects are the same that most scouts believe Neuwenhuis could give the Mets may be even this year so how is that elite? Let's see if Nimmo's surgically repaired knee can handle a full season playing in centerfield and then we'll have a better idea of what he is likely to project out as. My projection: The Mets minor league system will make a huge jump forward to being a top ten system by the end of the year.

That's pretty aggressive but a college Sr who is as well rounded as Muno could move quick.

Love the optimism.

There was one quick mention of OBP and it was part of the overall assessment of Nimmo's potential.

"All this talk about prospects on this site and I haven’t seen any mention of a kid’s ability to drive in runs and drive in runs UNDER PRESSURE."

Because they are prospects. they haven't been in any true high pressure spots.

You don't like stat compiling but celebrate a slap hitting battle title?

Everybody is talking about OBP and not one mention of RBI = LOSING.

It's amazing how things keep getting dumber and dumber and all it's gonna lead to is reading about prospects, evaluating talent, and still losing.

You HAVE to know who can close the deal, who can rise in the big spots, who can drive the runs home.
Not one mention of Tejada showing the ability to get clutch hits, which is very nice for such a young player. I already know he has developed an excellent eye and you don't usually see players do that at the major league level. Now that he's developing he is showing the uncanny ability to hit in big spots. That's what's gonna win you championships - I don't care who is on base or how good his OBP is. He's developing as a hitter much quicker than I anticipated and as long as that continues his OBP will be fine. What is now starting to stand out is his ability to get a big hit. I haven't really seen Havens so I can't say. All this talk about prospects on this site and I haven't seen any mention of a kid's ability to drive in runs and drive in runs UNDER PRESSURE.

That's what's gonna grow you a winner (outside of pitching, naturally). Not silly and stupid obp. But that's the way things are turning here and you're gonna reap what you sow.

While on the subject Lucas Duda is a guy i'm gonna keep my eye on. I think he's gonna hit (20+ HRs, .275 AVG, 75 RBIs, I don't care about his OBP as long as he has those other numbers up to par).
But one thing that concerns me about Duda even though he has 2 walk off hits last year (I believe 2) is that he usually tightens up and swings wildly at bad pitches in clutch situations and that definitely bears watching. I am telling you. Sure he's new and obviously is learning and can definitely grow out of it but that is one serious thing that bears watching. If he just becomes another numbers compiler like right than all his sexy numbers will mean nothing.

You have to be able to close the deal. I want players who can close the deal not look good making it. The players who can close the deal are the players that will win championships. You have to be able to EXECUTE when it MATTERS THE MOST and if you can't do that i would trade the kid in an instant.

Those are assets that are not talked about anymore with this 'new baseball' and you know what? Last place will be calling you. But hey at least you'll have guys with nice OBPs - even Craig Lerner said last season was a success because of that, right? Yippeee
