The Bud Selig relationship to the league and its star players is complex. Drugs were once thought to be the soft underbelly of Selig’s stewardship and now they threaten to define his entire period as Commissioner. Under Selig’s leadership and policies, baseball had largely taken control of the practice. As a result, Selig is disappointed that Braun single handedly throws up a bogus but plausible excuse that chips away at his progress on the matter. So he’s angry and defensive on the subject.

Though he’s not likely to taken any consolation in the wisdom of literature, Bud would do well to understand a lesson from the novel, ‘Animal Farm’, by George Orwell. The lesson is: ‘All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.’

Ryan Braun’s skills and his batting leadership is now thought by some occupying corner offices as making him more equal. League executives don’t want Braun to be viewed as a druggie, as a failure. It’s as simple as that. The integrity of the game demands it.

The lunatic making the offending post goes on a tear declaring the second poster an awful person/makes veiled threats/ and claimed them sort of new breed and makes assumptions about the second poster that have little if anything to do with the topic at hand and are often incorrect.

And from there it all spirals down.

I agree entirely that Braun was wronged when the results of his tests were leaked to ESPN in December and even though the network had the legal right to air the story I wonder how ethical it was, even though it’s validity was not in question. It was their way of getting a scoop and, unfortunately, that is the type of indiscretion practiced by most of the media, no matter if it’s the liberal left, the conservative right or the ones who practice strict impartiality.

But that doesn’t let Braun off for the act IMHO he did commit. In the long term he is just as responsible for an affront to the game as the one who leaked the story to ESPN.

And there are all different types of issues that deal with the integrity of the game. Yes, the integrity of the binding agreement won while the integrity behind the reasons for the drug testing agreement didn’t. And judging from the the response of the player’s union and individuals, the spirit of drugs having no place in the game that appeared to separate this generation of players from those of the steroid era didn’t really exist, either.
