Will it be, “Sorry kids, this guy has a business card that says “owner” and he paid us a bunch of money to see Mr Met whenever he wants, better luck next time.” Oh, and who wouldn’t want a poster of baseball’s best mascot, Mr. Met, am I right?! And when’s the Mr Wilpon bobble head day? Oh, wait, bad idea. Would hate to see Ike Davis get bonked in the head with a Wilpon bobble head by one of the 500 fans in attendance that day.

Carnival trinkets, posters and bobble heads won’t carry the day. There are 29 living members of the 1962 inaugural season team. Many are living in the New York metropolitan are, and a lot live in the eastern USA. The rest are typically on the west coast. Only a few live outside the United States, such as in the Latin countries.

The Mets are blaming their financial circumstances on the reduced celebrations. But it really reeks of a cheepo approach. They need to have a special day with all 1962 living members invited to walk the bases, strut their stuff, and have a lot of fun with our great fans. I bet CitiField would be sold out.
