The “desperate need of guys who can play outfield” quote by Collins stood out for me as well. If Torres God forbid should go down for a length of time due to injury the Mets do not have a legitimate CF to take his place yet. This lack of depth continues to be a concern and even Collins recognizes it in that quote.

It’s a valid point. It is what it is though. I still think not resigning Reyes had more to do with the Mets being broke than it did with SA not wanting to sign him.

Here’s hoping whatever might be lacking with Tejada’s bat will be more than made up with a couple of others in that lineup.

It may very well be because of the pitching. I guess we’ll see. But if it comes down to a dead out at shortstop and the pitching holds up well with the return of Johan and improvement from Niese/Gee/Pelf, I still wonder if he will admit it if he does miss the WC by 2-4 games. Like I said, we’ll see. I’m simply posing a hypothetical.

If we wind up close to the WC and don’t reach it, it’s likely b/c of pitching more so than the SS position – IMO.

BP was awful after KRod was traded but real long shot they were getting to post season if he wasn’t. Still was a good trade. And even though it didn’t come to pass, keeping KRod would have immediately nixed any idea of possibly being able to afford resigning Reyes. I would have rather had Reyes……

If the Mets miss that second wild card by 2-5 games, I wonder if Alderson will admit that Reyes would have been a difference maker? At least he now openly takes blame for the Mets bullpen collapse ruining any chance the Mets had after trading K-Rod, a fact I’ve heard his say several different times in the last two months. Of course when me and others said that, it was met with consternation. Believe what you want, but I’m with Sandy on that matter.
