In Loving Memory of Gary “The Kid” Carter

I’m at a loss for words. Made this today for you, Gary. Rest in peace Kid.
This is one of the first graphics I ever made for MMO. I’ll miss you, kid.
In 2010, I designed this for our MMO T-shirt Shop. I made Retire 8 Buttons too. I hope this happens.
We are going to donate $2.00 from every Retire 8 T-shirt we sell to the Gary Carter Foundation.

One of my first heroes. He did the right way, on and off the field. RIP Kid and all the best to your family. You will be missed.
Gary Carter.
I used to really love the nickname “The Kid” and I liked it because of him. My two favorite catchers in history are Gary Carter and Mike Piazza. Both HoF caliber players.
I really wish he had gone into the Hall as a Met – but it is not the time to debate such a matter.
Retire number 8.
Rest in Peace, Gary Carter.
This really hurts. A big part of my childhood just died with him. They absolutely need to retire #8 this year.
Now more than ever, we need to retire Number 8. RIP Gary!
Just saw the SNY clip with Keith Hernandez talking about Carters passing. You can hear how breaking down as he tries to give them a few minutes on Carter. Just so hard to listen to.
Gary Carter was special. The game will miss him. RIP Gary.
The baseball is sadden due to the loss of our one of the best mets player gary carter, a player who played hard every game, blood, sweat and tears. A wonderful person who really loved this game. He loved the mets and new york city, and the fans. I miss gary “the kid”. I wish more young players of the future would play like him, with heart. God bless you gary and thank you for who you were. Yes i also agree to retire his no. 8. It’s only right thing to do.
Coming from a 30 year Phillies fan, Gary Carter was the model of who you wanted anchoring a team. Tremedous skills, big heart and an overall class act. Even when he racked up big hits against us over two decades, I always admired how he played the game. Huge loss for baseball but at least now he’s at peace.
It’s always a sad day when one learns of a young and kindly individual who passed away before his or her time. Though we did not know him, as it’s already been said, we too feel the loss because it is another chapter of our lives that has closed.
My wife said to me that she felt much sadder for Gary Carter than she did for Whitney Houston and I knew exactly where she was coming from. Whitney Houston was a tragic story of one who was young, famous and a tremendous talent but who must also be remembered as a drunkard and a drug addict to be pitied more than celebrated. Perhaps that is more a condemnation of the dark side of show business and how it can easily entrap one into a fantasy world of power and the delusion of being bigger than life and a “Whitney Houston”. But the bottom line is that no matter how decent an individual she might have been and how tragic her life was and how it ended, she was still the one responsible for choosing the lifestyle she led (as it is for all of us for we each have our demons to face and for some that is a much rougher road than for others). Whitney Houston had the choice between living and dying.
And that gets me angry because Gary Carter had no such choice. Both left this world too soon but Whitney threw her life away while the Kid had his taken away instead.
Mr. Gary “The Kid” Carter for the first time has lost, lost a battle against death. I might not have been privileged to see him in a Mets jersey but I feel truly honored as a Mets fan to know you were, are and always will be a part of Mets history. My condolences to the Carter family.
never will forget, Gary “The Kid” Carter. 1954-2012
I heard a great story on Boomer and Carton on the way in to work this morning from a caller. Take it for what it’s worth because who knows if it was true, but it sounded like it could be true.
The caller was at a 10-year reunion of the ’86 team, and when it was over as they were leaving, a kid around ten years old ran up to Carter decked out in Mets gear with a ball and asked for an autograph. Someone on Carter’s staff (agent, PR guy, etc.) tried to shoo the kid away, but Carter stopped and signed the autograph, then said loud enough for surrounding people to hear “don’t ever do that to a kid again.”
Sounds like the kind of guy we all heard Carter was.
Yes, that indeed sounds like something the Kid would say concerning a kid.
Even if not true, it is so reflective of the man we are mourning today.
Kelly Horn — Great graphic. Best I’ve seen on the man we’re mourning. Thank you.
Where have our Fathers gone?
Straight to Heaven, of course.
Do not look for them in the cemeteries of the dead.
Visit them instead in the fields of living and growing things they loved.
Breathe the air and enjoy the skies and waters of their recreation.
Touch the tools of their work.
Sing their songs
Pray in the churches where they worshipped.
Travel the paths and lanes of their communities.
Honor their love of country with patriotism.
Embrace their friends and families with love and compassion.
Miss them.
Godspeed Gary, you were one of the best–
Great job, Kelly.
April 8th, Gary Carter’s Birthday should be Gary Carter Day. Retire his number and have his family throw out the first pitch.
Time to pay some respect for players that actually played for the Mets and gave us a championship.
