I watched him at Binghamton via MiLB and he really go lit up the few times i saw him. Here’s hoping for the best in 2012.

Yeah he was horrible as a starter. He does throw extreemely hard so maybe he’s got a shot at being a LOOGY.

Carson does seem like a fine human being, but he had ERAs over 5 and WHIPS over 1.6 in A and AA the last two years.

I have roughly a similar chance to be a successful MLB pitcher.

Fantastic interview, Pete. It might even be your best one yet. As I told you yesterday, it’s hard to believe how long it’s been since we developed a power lefty for the bullpen. I have no doubt Carson will break that long dry spell, and obviously DePo and Alderson feel the same way when they made sure to add him to the 40-Man this Winter. I cant wait to see him in person.

Rob, thanks for giving Pete and MMO a little of your time! We’ll be watching your 2012 campaign with great interest. And tell Reese Havens to pick up the phone and speak to our readers! lol

I think he’ll make the majors. I can’t see a big strong lefty that can throw 100MPH, never making the majors. And just because he didn’t work out as a starter, doesn’t he he won’t as a RP.

An interesting comparison to Carson I think is Venters. Both are left handed and he struggled in the minors as starter too, and didn’t miss many bats either, but they turned him into a RP a year later and was dominant. Venters as a starter in AA and AAA in 09 had a 8-11 record, 4.42 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 98 K’s, 77 BB’s, and allowed 163 hits in 156 IP. The next year, he had an ERA under 2 pitching out the bullpen in the majors.

I don’t think he’ll be as good as Venters, but I just think it’s an interesting comparison because they are both hard throwing lefties, they both have a lot of talent, but their minor league numbers as starters weren’t impressive.

You know what impressed me the most reading this interview? The fact that they switched him from a starter to the BP and he just embraced it. I mean took it and ran with it.

Now here’s a kid with some good talent that reads like he knows he’s not bigger than the game. Just go out there and showcase his talent, keep working hard to improve and he might be up here sooner rather than later – maybe a staple in that BP for years to come.

Rob Carson sounds like a likable young man. So I wish him the very best. His last couple of seasons left me wondering about his major league potential. He needs another effective pitch or more movement on what he has. He reminds me a bit of a lefty Pelfrey. Why? Because he doesn’t miss many bats, so that despite his velocity, the bats have been tracking him. His AA records show many more hits than innings pitched — 222 hits in 177 innings over two seasons. His AA whip is 1.695 for the same two seasons and his ERA is 5.95. Whew!
