The Mets basically got Hubie from the Dodgers to replace Strawberry in right field, hoping a previous fan favorite could replace another fan favorite. 1991 was a year in which the Mets used a number of former infielders in the outfield. Do you remember HoJo shifting to center field and right field as well? That was all in 1991. It's no wonder the Mets began a stretch of six consecutive losing seasons that year.

No I don't think Duda will do that because he will be moved to left the moment Bay is gotten rid of via trade (which could happen this year if bay produces and the Mets arent doing so well) or gets cut (to avoid his vesting option) or contract runs out...

I have no recollection of Hubie ever playing RF, I guess he wasn't very good at it? I hope Duda does give us some much needed stability in RF, that is if he doesn't get shifted to LF down the road.

Historically speaking this is a very interesting piece. However, I don't think Duda will be the Opening Day right-fielder for the Mets for more than two years either. If he doesn't get traded in the next two years, I see him moving over to play left-field when the Mets are finally able to unload Jason Bay and his obscene contract. With all the speedy, talented outfielders in the Mets minor league pipeline now, I think in two years a better defensive presence will emerge in RF. Perhaps a Captain Kirk, Cesar Puello, or Corey Vaughn type.
