Comparing the success of the New York Football Giants with how pathtic the Mets are now is unrealistic.

Firstly, as far as I know neither Mara or Tisch were hoodwinked by Madoff and had to gut their team.

Secondly, the Giants offensive leader over the past five years is Eli. Jose Reyes was, arguably, the Mets offensive leader.

Did the Giants let Eli leave for free agency?

Don't get your hopes up despite the Giants' success. Two different things.

It's easy for a front office to both dump players to save money and not invest in others to keep expenses down and spin it under the guise of rebuilding.

That's why we didn't keep Beltran and KRod last season and go after other players to help bring us closer to the wild card. Didn't mean we had to trade any prospects to strengthen the club for there is always the waiver list and the customary "player to be named later".

And I'm concerned about the pressure now being placed on Zach Wheeler during his minor league development, let alone if and when he is called up. Can he cope with all the publicity, controversy and everybody expecting so much out of him? He might find it difficult just too difficult living under the microscope of a budding superstar status he suddenly found thrust upon him. That's a lot to place on top of a young kid's shoulders.

I think it's really easy to list the many things that leaves reason to be down about with our favorite baseball team. And I'm not going to sit here and tell everyone to just pray hard and hope for the best. What I am going to say is cheer for your team, stare into the eye of the reality of what we are (on paper, our division's 5th best team), and think of going .500 as not just the best case scenario but a seriously great year.

Also, hitching your wagon to all the young talent that'll be reaching Citi Field in the next 1-2 years is something to smile upon. We're not winning the World Series and we will not be the worst team in baseball. We're in the jumbled middle. We are what we think we are. Even still....keep calm, and carry on.

Last winter we were told that 2011 was only going to be a transition year. Then during the season that changed from transition to rebuilding. Whatever word they want to use to paint the picture, this is nothing more than Sterling Equities trying to retain ownership while its financial well ran dry. After news about the Madoff situation and the Wilpons involvement, we began learning of all the debt they had accumulated beforehand.

Had there been water in that well we would never have been talking about transition or rebuilding. We also would not have been talking in terms of not having re-signed the left side of our infield, now with one half of that already gone.

Completely true. The real funny part is when the Yankees lose they completely go beyond themselves (Buster Olney). They just hype up the Yankees so much and leave the Mets for dead but when the Mets are on a roll they just try to bury them as much as they can and when the Mets make it to the playoffs they just act like they saw it coming but they say it wont last.

These are the times I wish the Mets now had the personality of the 86 team. Completely no class, brash, rude, ignorant but more than anything, no holds barred. That Mets team was a complete nightmare for everyone. They were so cocky too. They always got in fights, went to bars during the times they weren't on the field and they were just bullies but were a great team.

Some commenter hit it right on the head saying that the Mets had NY by the balls and now have nothing to show for it.

But I'm very optimistic we will once again shut up all these dumb reporters and non-believers. Just watch, the Mets will once again claim their throne as the best team in NY and in the NL
LETS GO METS!!!

Negativity sells. Especially in a major media market. The media are for the most part not fans unlike many of us who are so they are just looking to report a story but I do feel quite a few go out of their way to be more negative in their reporting than need be but if your from the Tri-State you know this is par for the course around here.

If MMO has shown anything is that no 2 fans are alike. When it comes to who and how the Mets are reported in the media some are drawn to one end of the spectrum and some to the other while others find themselves in the middle. I doubt it will ever change.

I find I gravitate more towards the Mets coverage done by Rubin, Coutinho, McCullough. I'm not a fan of Marchand, the NY Post and Lennon for the most part.

I never knew you were an analyst. Hey in 1973 no one believed right? I'm guessing your analysis saw they were going to the world the series right? of course you did, you're and analyst right?

What I'm trying to influence is for people to ignore these so called facts from people that state the Mets have no chance at anything except being last place. You might call it kool-aid but I call it believing. If Tug believed in the Mets then why not you? oh yeah you know all right? It's pretty obvious you saw the 2012 season right? All you're doing is spoiling the 2012 season results right? Let me guess, your "analysis" says the Phillies are in the World Series with either the Yankees/Angels/Tigers/Rangers right? Just like how you called the Cardinals and Rangers in the 2011 World Series and the Cardinals winning it in game 7 right?

I don't mean to sound respectful but can you at least let people enjoy their opinions on the 2012 season. I know it didn't start yet but we enjoy believing the Mets can make it to playoffs or finish above .500 or do the unexpected.

You just base every team based on acquisitions and statistics. I base my Mets on potential and statistics also. If you don't believe me just look at the Mets offense in 2011, now subtract Pujols and Fielder from the NL and Beltran from the Mets and add the season Ike was robbed of and now you tell me where the Mets stand in offense. Baseball wasn't born on statistics but more on just enjoying the game and having fun watching your favorite team.

Just try being positive man. How can life be fun if all you think is failure and boring. Just try believing the Mets maybe can be good. The Mets can go 0-162 or 162-0, both are unlikely but it's baseball. I enjoy baseball one game at a time not a season at a time. Believe in the Mets and you never know, we could meet in Radio City Hall wearing our Mets jerseys and caps while chanting "LETS GO METS" while Collins holds that beautiful trophy above his head.

Just believe man, thats all I'm asking for. I don't want to argue with my fellow Mets ally over controversial opinions. LETS GO METS!!! =)

We didn't LOSE Beltran he might have resigned with us if we had even tried, we didn't!
Beltran lost US not because of him but because we didn't want to pay him!

Say what you want about his age he was our RBI leader in September and that was with only half a season of contribution compared to the rest of the team we kept!

We got the best pitching prospect in the Minors? I think you need to check your BA list again because even Harvey and Familia are ahead of him in that regard and we had them already!

Still I aak what is Wheeler going to do to make us winners this year? Next year? The Year after that even?
You have guarantees of any of this or is it more FAITH than FACT again?

You got rid of 17.5 Mil and a solid Closer...
What did you get in return again?

make up your mind here please and tell me if we are supposed to be rebuilding then why all the (as you put it) "AGING NON-ALLSTARS" instead of building this year with kids or player that will be part of the long term plan?

The problem here is you are NOT interested in rebuilding! Your just saying that to justify what your REAL intention is!

REVENGE on the folks who were here and choked in 2007 and 2008!

All the talk about Sandy doing a good job and rebuilding is just a smoke screen to hide that agenda!

You want REVENGE not the best team we can build now or in the future!

Because if you did you wouldn't be so happy all the best players are gone and replaced with guys who are not even a single step towards a rebuil or a winning future!

You got Wheeler and thats about it!

And let me tell you he is NO Tom Seaver not even close!

We didn’t LOSE Beltran he might have resigned with us if we had even tried, we didn’t!
Beltran lost US not because of him but because we didn’t want to pay him!

You got rid of 17.5 Mil and a solid Closer…
What did you get in return again?

make up your mind here please and tell me if we are supposed to be rebuilding then why all the (as you put it) “AGING NON-ALLSTARS” instead of building this year with kids or player that will be part of the long term plan?

The problem here is you are NOT interested in rebuilding! Your just saying that to justify what your REAL intention is!

REVENGE on the folks who were here and choked in 2007 and 2008!

All the talk about Sandy doing a good job and rebuilding is just a smoke screen to hide that agenda!

You want REVENGE not the best team we can build now or in the future!

Because if you did you wouldn’t be so happy all the best players are gone and replaced with guys who are not even a single step towards a rebuil or a winning future!

You got Wheeler and thats about it!

Your point on religion might presume to be valid on the fact that faith is only concluded in upon whom believes it opposed to if an individual were to enforce or encourage your own belief but in fact does not have faith in you or what you represent.

So what I am assuming from your comment is that at the current state the Mets are in right now you have no expectations but only failure because you presume for that to be only the reality and you are trying to enforce that onto other people. So thats your faith.

What you are doing and what I myself is doing is nothing different from itself. You try to influence others to just not believe in what can hypothetically happen. You believe that what you speak of is only truth but instead you can not begin to fathom that maybe what you say is only a theory and an opinion. Thats what I'm doing, expressing my opinion.

I only try to spread positive assumptions of this team while all you think of is really only the negative outlook of what this team can become and really look at this team as you said, dismantled. In fact this team has not been dismantled.

Fact: Jose Reyes has never finished a full season since 2008. His continued injuries would leave the Mets prone for ridicule and assumptions that this team without health is lackluster and the same goes for Carlos Beltran who missed half of 2009 and 2010 due to injuries and the potential of Fransisco Rodriguez from when we acquired him 2009 was no where near his years with the Angels.

The person who spoiled the Mets with irrational contracts, Omar Minaya, has left the Mets with clean hands while the Mets with Sandy Alderson has to clean up the mess Omar discarded upon us. The Mets are a better team from years prior, your perception upon the Mets is as if we didn't improve because why? we didn't obtain any "stars" during the off season? we're not named Marlins? well its quite simple to answer that question. Omar Minaya made it so we wouldn't have money this season with the countless errors he committed. This man called himself a gambler and I guess all he can do is bust.

What would it matter if we did get a person like Burhle, Papelbon or Reyes. You would still feel insecure with this "dismantled" team. All you do is perceive yourself to be pessimistic and object towards any perception of the Mets flourishing in any way possible. Everyone has an opinion but I guess yours is fact. Well of course you would right?.

By the way i looked up journalism for your convenience. "Journalism: noun; The occupation of reporting, writing, editing, photographing, or broadcasting news or of conducting any news organization as a business." Funny thing, I didn't see truth. Guess ESPN does hire fools and liars huh? who would have ever thought.

We lost Beltran,an aging allstar who was leaving after the season was over and had no compensation attached to him and we got back one of the best pitching prospects in the sport for 2 months of his service. Smart move.We lost a declining closer who hasn't been an allstar for a couple of years and had a mindless option hanging over a team with financial trouble and we lost a SS who's averaged 95 games played the last 3 years. Not all that big a deal when you can't play 500 ball with those 3 allstars so if you're not going to win why continue to lose all that money. You do what shoul've been done 3 years ago.Rebuild.Only they need to toally rebuild and not half ass it.Move Wright and get the last piece of the nightmare choke years out of here.

No PaulyI am definitly a Met fan and if you read my posts you would know that full well!

Met Fans don't get PISSED when they see their team dismantled if they are not fans!
They jump for joy!

Who is jumping for joy around here about the moves made?
Me?

You say I need to have faith!
Why is this a religion?
Just because you can't seem to deal with the fact this team has been dismantled and is not better than it was before Sandy got here doesn't mean that the press is obligated to report your fantasy belief just so you can feel better about your team!

Journalism is about telling the truth to the best of your ability!

Put it this way if YOU think you HAVE FAITH then it really shouldn't matter what the press has reported about the team!

Thats the thing about Faith, unless it is unwavering and doesn't need reinforcement it's not really FAITH...Just Foolish HOPE!

If you wish to fool yourself into thinking this team is destined for something God Bless and Goodspeed with that!

But don't complain about the rest of us who refuse to re-inforce that fantasy for you or your own attempts to delude yourself!

If you have faith then it shouldn't matter what I or ESPN says now should it!

Your I Told you so moment will come because FAITH is all you need right?

See in in 2015!
When you will be able to stick it to me over my lack of faith!

Yes I'm a Met fan!
A pretty smart one I think!
And I'm really in the business of FOOLING myself nor helping others to fook themselves!

And no I am not employed by ESPN but I have worked for them!

Look at what I said about them elsewhere on this site!
You'll see where I stand on them!
Despite how great they pay me when I do work jobs with them!

Metsie I'm starting to think you're not even a Mets fan but just a stooge from ESPN. I'm guessing you're just fine if the Mets finish last place. You really need to start having some faith in the Mets or better yet, are you even a Mets fan? All I hear from you is just words a quitter would say. You really need to stand up for the team you represent instead of just throwing them to the curve and being embarrassed of them. If you're sick of the Mets then theres another team in the Bronx. You don't even need to be a fan to root for them.

Yeah they lost ONE every 6 months not three in 6 months!

BIG BIG Difference wouldn't you say?

What replaced them and then tell me who we replaced ours with that would equate to that!
