Excellent move by the Yanks to improve their rotation which is their primary weakness. Ours is just mired in its own mediocrity without hope of improvement.

just because you traded a good player doesn’t mean it was a bad move. You have to give value to get value (unless you can buy it in salary dumps).

this was a classic case of 2 teams doing a need for need from a strength deal.

If you have an excess in one area, trade it for something you are lacking. Simple, classic baseball move.

And teams really do look at multi-year plans. It is not always all about the next year. If you think you have a real shot and a small window, and can identify the 1 piece to put you over the top, then go “all in” . But other than that, teams balance competing in the current season vs. developing a better team in the years to come.

You have been all over Sandy for not making moves to try and win a few more games, even through it won’t get them to the WS.

But now you are saying there is no point for the Mariners to make a trade to improve because they aren’t going to make the playoffs this year anyway.

Obviously jessup wouldn’t have trade for Mike piazza and hated hgim for his lousy work behind the plate. The alderson gang comes thru no matter what. Afterall next they will tell us how Thole and Nickeas are the fiuture, especially Thole whose catching skills truly suck. But its ok, since sandy didn’t replace him.

If the Mets:

-Were in the AL where Montero could DH and make an impact on days he doesn’t C
-Had 2 young SP’s that they believe can be as good if not better than Pineda and be up within a year
-Have no young C and Miguel Olivo and Josh Bard are currently clogging the depth chart
-Had 2 powerhouses at the top of the division, both with aging rosters

Yes. I would.

You are looking at this as “Seattle doesn’t want to win.” But you’re ignoring Seattle’s situation and the fact they have 2 guys they think are very very good. Will they be? Only time will tell… but you are one of the guys who loves scouting and old school thought processes… well that is what they are doing. Their scouts love their 2 young SPs. So that makes Pineda expendable if they want a young catcher.

I’m not saying its a bad trade by either team. I think both teams got what they wanted, which generally means it was a good deal right?
