As noted in the blog but not in any comments. The Rockies did acquire Scutaro, so I’m not sure there is much else to discuss here. I don’t really see why they’d want Turner AND Scutaro

“The Rockies remain strongly interested in the Mets’ Justin Turner”. That’s nice, but why aren’t the Mets interested in the Mets’ Justin Turner. He was actually one of our better players last year with an eye for RBI’s. Just keep him and forget about Young. We’ll need him when Murphy bungles the 2nd base job or busts his knee again.

Turner is easy to get behind with the effort he makes on the field. The Mets need that nowadays to get people to go to the park, since they’re not playing for wins or respect or anything like that. I don’t see how this rumored trade makes the Mets better, so why bother with it?

Hu and Turner weren’t really playing the same role. And none of the 2B candidates really distinguished themselves in ST, so they went with the guy who didn’t have options.

That said, I’d prefer Turner to Young. I think we’ve got enough bodies in the OF.

I love Rich, he was one of the only beat writers to treat me like I wasn’t just a blogger or a leper (Rubin being the other). But he’s way off on Turner’s value – way off. Nobody will part with a quality pitching prospect for Turner. Ain’t happening.

I like Turner. He just knows how to win. Is Young any better that Priddie, Evens or Fmart? I don’t like this at all.

Young isn’t very good is the bottom line. And speed is not doing much good if the guy can’t get on base. You really don’t have that much call for a pinch runner to waste a roster spot on a guy to do that.

For 2B, Murphy might be the nominal starter at this point, but he is going to have to earn the job in ST (or at least, keep it). I would guess that the back up plan is not really cedeno (for more than a short term plug in), but to get to mid-season and if they need a change hope that Havens or Valdespin have made their case to deserve to come up.

I still have hope that Havens (IMO the LT answer) gets all rehabbed and ready to go over the winter, and has a huge spring, forcing himself into the job (if not opening day, shortly after).

I think Richie C. is overestimating Turner’s value to other teams. A quality pitching prospect? I don’t mind him staying on the Mets, but if that’s their asking price, he’s not going anywhere.

I agree with Bayonne, I’m not that crazy about Eric Young either. I’d rather stay with Turner and see if he develops this year than trade him for a 26 yr old infielder who may hit .235?

i’m not crazy about Young. I would rather hold onto Turner than trade him for Eric Young because when Murphy proves he can’t play 2B once and for all we’re gonna have Eric Young and Ronnie Cedeno there?

Young by all accounts isn’t much of a 2B and his bat isn’t good enough to compensate for that which is why the Rockies don’t have him at second. If they trade Turner let’s hope a hard thrower comes back or a guy that play CF if Torres doesn’t work out.

I like Turner, but he certainly seems to be the odd man out at the moment. I wouldn’t have a major issue if he was traded for Young, just for the fact the team is so thin at OF. And if he’s not traded, that’s fine too.

Jeff Keppiner clone in my eyes. With Murphy @ 2nd and Cedeno backing him up our need for Turner is only as insurance for Murphy.. A swap for Young would be a good move for the Mets. Look at he potential 25 an roster and tell me where you see speed. Anyone? Pagan and Reyes Were essential components on the roster that will be missed and their has been little talk of t speed and threat on the base paths they were. Young Jr. can at least replace some of the speed. A good pinch runner in just as important as a good pinch hitter and Young could thrive in the role. Answer this. Can Young be a better pinch runner than Turner as a pinch hitter?
