I think it is much more likely murphy gets traded. i know he is a fan favorite and has a bunch of upside with his bat, but i think mets can get a decent pitcher from tampa for murphy. 2012 is about building momentum for the mets; with 2013 being the start of a real solid team. That is not to say we cant be competitive in 2012, i think we will.

I love Murphy, but I think what we can get for him fits more into the future then he does being on the mets

Turner didn’t exactly blow the doors off of PSL last spring. Besides, Hu and Turner played different roles. Hu was supposed to be a late inning defensive replacement and Turner a utility guy with a little offense. Saying Turner was held back in favor of Hu is like saying Turner was held back in favor of Hairston.

Emaus and Turner had similar springs and Turner had options.

If Alderson really was determined to hold back Turner because he was Minaya’s guy (whom Minaya held back in favor of 4 other guys who couldn’t hit or field all that well), Alderson would have brought in an outside option.

Agree w/that bench but I see Mets going w/a 11 man staff which will leave 6 bench spots, 2 additional, so as of now i think Turner will make the team(Quintinella is emergency or Buffalo), he had some somewhat clutch hits w risp, he can be used as a ph ..as of now i think Baxter makes it as 5th OF cause he’s good defensively so he’ll replace Duda late in games..but im sure at some point during the season Cap Kirk or someone bounces him off team..then i see them going w 3 catchers RJohnson makes it, more ph flexibilty ..Hairston, Baxter, Cedeno, Turner, Nickeas, RJohnson–still early thou, we’ll see…

I think it’s a shame that Turner might be getting the short end of the stick. Mostly because he can bring the whole package to the game off the bench. He showed he was versatile by playing multiple positions on the infield, hitting for a decent average while not always having consistent playing time, and flashing some leather. Plus, he just looks like a ballplayer. I know that doesn’t count for much, but he seems to be a guy that does things the old fashioned way, and that’s something that this Meta team needs. He doesn’t complain about anything, he’s just happy to be in the MLB, and does whatever he can to help his team win.

Justin Turner has shown that he’s a pretty good hitter in clutch situations. He will be valuable as a pinch hitter and if David Wright is traded he will become the next third baseman by default.

Once again, economics will determine this and many things that could happen this season. If there are no “investors” for the Wilpon plan then they may well be forced to sell the team if they end up being clobbered by the Madoff lawsuits……..

So, we as fans have to be ready for the possible loss of David Wright in a trade by the deadline!

Turner is the best of the bench and will not get lost in any numbers game. He is one of the few players we have that gets clutch hits and RBI’s is his game. He is a better fielder than Murphy. If you want to consider all possibilities, Turner is actually a marginal starter and not in danger of being dropped as a sub. He is at least at the head of the bench on this team at perhaps a starter if Murphy’s knees turn out to be a real problem. As far as Quintanilla goes, there is no way he is coming north out of ST. With the state of this team, Turner is a lock to come north this season.

I agree about Turner. he is a bright spot. with the addition of cedeno, i wonder if justin is going to be traded?

lifelongmetsfan…Daniel Murphy will start at 2nd. It’s his job to lose. He’s one of the regular eight starting players. Turner will be his backup/RH hitting counter part.

I’m intrigued by Adam Loewen as well.

Well Alderson screwed Justin Turner last spring too in favor of Hu and Emaus. It’s no secret if given the choice between his guy or one of Omar’s his guy wins, so yeah I’m certain Turner goes to Buffalo again to start next season. But considering how TERRIBLE Quintanilla and Cedeno look, he’ll be up before the end of April when these two guys get cut.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Nieuwenhuis shows up with at Spring Training. He didn’t have a bad one last year. IMO if it weren’t for injury last year, his name might be spoken a bit louder to see at least some time in CF

All the scouts and analysts say Torres is a smart player with very good defensive skills, exactly what the Mets didn’t have in CF the last two years. Pagan has more offensive upside, but not much, and it’s not like Torres is an automatic out. He’s probably a 4th OF on good teams, but with Duda in RF and Bay in LF, the Mets need a CF who can go get it and he’s it. They could live with his bat if everything, and I mean EVERYTHING (Wright, Ike, Duda, Bay, Thole and Murphy ALL rebound/come back healthy) goes right.

Justin needs to make the team…PERIOD! He was the bright spot for the mets when there were so many dark ones. I’m a HUGE Turner fan and look forward to the Mets doing the right thing with him! He is part of the future!
