Where Will Mets Pitching Prospects Start Their Seasons?

Yesterday, I asked our Mets minor league expert Pete Shapiro where he thought our top pitching prospects would start their 2012 seasons.

His answer was interesting enough that I thought I’d share it with all of you:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Harvey and Familia are going to start at AAA (remember they already had Wally for their manager at Bingo last year).

Wheeler and Gorski could begin at AA.

Buffalo
1. Matt Harvey
2. Jeurys Familia
3. Collin McHugh
4. Chris Schwinden
5. Brandon Moore or Mark Cohoon

Binghamton
1. Zack Wheeler
2. Darin Gorski
3. Scott Moviel
4. Greg Peavey
5. Kyle Allen, Adrian Rosario

St. Lucie
1. Logan Verrett
2. Cory Mazzoni
3. Tyler Pill
4. Jack Leathersich
5. Ryan Fraser

Savannah
1. Juan Urbina
2. Dom Tapia
3. Rafael Montero
4. Akeel Morris
5. Bret Mitchell

Pete will be reporting from Buffalo, Binghamton and Brooklyn this season for MMO and providing his insights all year long.

He’s currently wrapping up the final segment of MMO’s 2012 Top 50 Mets Prospects and has some other cool features lined up after that. In the past ten weeks he has conducted over a dozen interviews with Mets prospects including Michael Fulmer, Danny Muno, Dylan Owen and just this week Darin Gorski and Scott Moviel. You can check them all out here.

In the next week I’ll be introducing a new addition to our team who will providing coverage from Port St. Lucie for Spring Training, and season long coverage of our Florida affiliates as we bring you more dedicated Mets minor league coverage than ever before.

Thanks for your support… LGM!

  • Where will Fulmer pitch?

    • Was thinking the same thing. Brooklyn?

  • Looking forward to the coverage Joe D.

  • Do you think putting Harvey in AAA would be rushing him? Can he handle that level? Just curious?

  • Something to look forward too. My old man always has taught, “even in your darkest hour, if you have something to look forward to, it will give you reason to carry on.” Fine words, a good philosophy, the only philosophy we as Met fans should adhere to over the coming dark ages 2 the sequel. If shea was ‘grants tomb’ in the late 70′s, Citi should be aptly dubbed another moniker, yet inside the seeds of these dark ages, a new age will dawn with some of the names listed above

  • Thanks Joe D. for the expanded coverage and managing a great site.

Thanks Petey Pete for your wonderful work all season. It was a joy to read.

Thanks Writer X for joining the team with on-site reporting and analysis.

  • whoa u missed chase huchingson and gonzalez germen these guys had good seasons, especially chase huchingson watch out for that guy could be a good one.

  • I think the Mets might like to see Harvey have a little more sustained success in AA before pushing him to AAA. Remember, he struggled a bit to start off in AA before settling down to a strong finish to the season. I think the new F/O might be a little more conservative with where they start their best young pitchers. Along those lines, I see Wheeler starting in St. Lucie, Harvey in Binghamton, as well as Familia. I think Harvey will be the 1st to make it to AAA, probably by June or July followed by Familia later in the year. Wheeler should at least finish 2012 in AA with maybe a late season sniff at Buffalo if he pitches well enough in AA. Overall, I expect less rushing of prospects by the new front office vs. the previous one.

  • 86 mets i agree with you about the management being a little more conservative. But Familia is ahead of Harvey he had more starts in AA. I think hell start in Buffalo Harvey will get about 10starts in AA before he gets promoted. Same as Wheeler he’ll start in PSL get 10 starts then be promoted when Harvey does and take his turn in the rotation. Gorski will pitch the season in AA except 2or3 starts at the end of the year in AAA. I think Fullmer will pitch in Kingston

  • I THOUGHT ST.LUCIE WAS ELIMINATED!

I CERTAINLY WOULDN’T OPPOSE BOTH HARVEY & FASMILIA BEING RETAINED @ BINGO FOR MOST OF ’12 WITH MOST OF ’13 @ BUFF & A STRONG ’14 IWITH FLUSHING ‘S MINOR LEAGUE TEAM(lol)

    • The Gulf Coast League Mets were eliminated. They were a rookie ball team that shared the facility with the Port Saint Lucie Mets of the Florida State League, which is High A Ball.

  • Taylor Whitenton will be in St. Lucie too I believe.
