Yes, it’s sad. If Santana isn’t ready, who’s in the wings to fill out the rotation. I guess it’s Miguel Batista. He was remarkably good when we saw him last year, but is that all there is? In fact, that should be our new team song: out with “Meet the Mets” and in with “Is that all there is”?

its sad to think that the mets were so good just 5 years ago and looked to be at the top of the NL East. and every season it got worse and worse. i believe this ball club went down hill when they signed perez to a long term deal. let delgado go and martinez. they were set to hit the playoffs once more then they could have looked at free agency. possibly have saved beltran and reyes. i grew up across the street from the stadium its sad to think that all this happened in what i would say was the prime of the ball club. i still remain a fan wright is our last hope.

Sadly this is what happens when you’re a moneyball team. Wright will be gone and this front office will continue to make this team a joke. It’s sad what they’ve done to a big market team in such a short time.

While I’m not one to be overly optimistic about the team’s chances in 2012, I’m also not one to give up before the season even starts either. The things said about this team were probably also said about the 2011 Tampa Bay Rays as well. Gone were their superstar leadofff man Carl Crawford, closer Rafael Soriano, set up man Joaquin Benoit, No. 2 Starter Matt Garza, 1B Carlos Pena, SS Jason Barlett, and practically the entire remainder of the bullpen. No one gave them a chance vs. the NY Yankees or Boston Red Sox (Crawford’s new team), and yet, when the dust settled it was the Rays, not the Red Sox who made the playoffs.

I am NOT saying that I predict the Mets to beat the Marlins to a playoff spot. And I will concede that the Raysr may have had a better core returning than the Mets do (especially in starting pitching). What I am saying is that the games are played on the field, not in newspapers or on blogs. Maybe injuries hit the Marlins or Phillies for once, not the Mets. Stranger things have happened in this game. Things look bleak in Flushing, but that does not mean we should just give up before the season even starts.

I tell you that I am a frustrated Mets fan and my hopes with them of being a good team that can compete in the N.L. East diminishes every year. If this team can’t improve then I say this team will go nowhere for years to come. The Mets are stuck in the N.L. East parents’ basement.
