I don’t care about the Wilpon thing. Honestly, as much as I want the Wilpons to move on, they had done nothing that warrants Sandy stepping in and taking them over anyway.

I agree. Generally speaking, fans do not like the Commish of any sport. He works for the owners, not the fans… I think people assume he works for the fans sometimes.

I don’t like Selig mostly due to this whole Wilpon thing. Outside of that, I frankly think he’s done more good than bad

It makes sense that 29 of the 30 owners would vote to extend Bud Selig’s contract. After all, allowing the Wilpons to retain ownership insures a continuing fire sale of the few remaining good players the Mets will have left. In two years or so Davis, Duda, Murphy and others will be eligible for arbitration and that will be like taking candy from a baby just like it has been in Oakland.

Bad news for us but not for the rest of the majors.

It was the San Diego owner who voted no because the other owners tabled his request for selling his team until the next meeting which ticked him off.

Selgi is suporting an onwer who is this out of touch with his fans:

Wilpon: “I think that we have to get the fans back at the stadium,” said Wilpon, 75, who has owned at least a stake in the team since 1980. “That’s a necessity, that’s a lifeblood. To do that, we have to have a good team. … Our fans really deserve some good play on the field and I’m very hopeful.”

That was from the WJS interview.

You can’t. as an owner, along with the front office, do nothing but cut in the off season and expect to get fans back. Fred believes that the fans were frustrated by long term contracts. Really? The fans are frustrated by one thing – not having a competative team. The fans didn’t make the long term contracts – the front office did. And if Fred was unable to keep his best player from going to a NL East competator he can’t now expect fans to rush back to Citifield.

He’s out of touch.

As far as Selig being around for 2 more years – well, he’s every owner’s Buddy.
