Cody would be better off with the Red Sox than the Mets. Despite their problems and my personal feeling that the Sox might be fading from the top echelon of the league, it’s going to be more fun playing in Fenway than at Citi Field.

And signing Ross would have been a worthless move for the Mets but now I think we all accept the fact that most all moves now being made by the Mets are worthless. The only moves that will be worth something are the ones that I hope they stop doing. On paper the club looks like a fifth place team but we saw how the kids played as a cohesive unit up until they were undermined by ownership so we know they could spark something again if (and there are many of those) certain things do go right for what appears on paper often is not what occurs on the field. A long shot, yes, but by not ridding themselves of veterans doing the job and keeping them within close range of the wild card, it will be those moves that they don’t make – salary dumping – that just might save the season. Again, a long shot but at least there is something to grasp at if the Wilpons don’t again take it away from us.

Unfortunately, that is what I see Sandy doing again this summer. It’s not as much that the Mets WOULDN’T but COULDN’T come up with the $3 million that Boston signed Ross for and that is just more evidence on how bad the financial situation really is. And I don’t think it’s the Mets per say as it is the entire Wilpon holdings which means little spent on the team as possible.

Well now, as we can see at one point there was to be given to jose reyes, so what happened to that money now, now that jose went south. I just don’t get my team anymore. like i said before, let’s get rid of those owners please. They are the real reason why the mets can’t be winners for a long time, they really want a team but lose lose all the time, and yues it’s unfair to us as fans because we pay for those players they put on the field. Why can;t they just sign a few pitchers or just trade for them. Like reyes and now fmart we just let them go without getting something for them. Now all of u know what kind of season we will be having, thanks alot again to the wilpons.

Ross is a quality veteran MLBer, who has averaged 17 HR’s per season over the past 6 seasons and he made over $6 million last season. Translation: too rich for Mets’ blood. Plus, he would end up being the everyday CFer which would mean that the Pagan trade was for nothing.

I think we’ll be seeing exactly what the team has signed so far come spring training, with the exception of maybe a pitcher or 2 (Young on a minor league deal + one other).

Well, to nitpick a little, most of the money that is tied up is due to the previous regime.

Looking back in hind sight, yes, certain moves should have been made/not made. But while having Ross would be nice, at his cost he wouldn’t be an option. Honestly, if they had the money for Ross, I’m sure they would have spent that elsewhere than a backup/platoon OF type.

You may be right that I was too harsh in my assessment, but I am not going to fret over the fact that the Mets interest in him has cooled. That was predictable because we can’t afford him anyway and it was just a smoke screen all along. He’s the kind of player that is not quite good enough to go after and too expensive to go after either. We need nickel and dime players that have fallen through the MLB screening system and are capable unknowns. Where do you get those kinds of players? Beats me, that’s Brainiac’s job.

It would also provide vet leadership overall.

Unless there are few teams wanting Cody I would think he would not want to go from a contender and once removed world champion to the Mets with the way we were headed. So maybe the pickings are quite limited.

Apparently, the holdup is that Ross is asking for money and the Mets have offered him a perks package that includes access to Mr. Met.
