Reality Bites: 2012 Topps Jose Reyes Baseball Card

REALITY BITES!

I guess seeing is believing, and this image certainly brings home the realization that Jose Reyes is now the shortstop for the Miami Marlins. Nice airbrush job by Topps…

I’d like to thank Mr. North Jersey for the link and also credit to the Palm Beach Post for the image.

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

  • Question…

    Where was that photo taken??

Easy answer is: Photoshop man, no big deal.

But was it taken in a Mets jersey with the Marlins jersey photoshopped in?!?! Speaking of photoshopped in…are those real fans in the background, or just blurred in blurred people.

Anyway, it’s going to take getting used to seeing Reyes in THAT jersey.

    • That’s PNC Park (green wall, the font is right, and 383 is an outfield dimension written on the wall…that last one I Google’d), so they likely found a shot of Reyes in a gray Mets road jersey and just altered the name across the chest and the hat logo (black Mets road cap is now a black Miami cap).

  • Good thing I can’t see photo. It is going to be VERY hard seeing Reyes come in as a SS for any other team.

  • I dont like it.

  • It’s very strange seeing Reyes in that uniform…it will be even stranger in a few weeks when we start seeing video of the Miami Marlins in Spring Training.

I do have to say that Topps has gotten significantly better with their Photoshop work, that’s an impressive job. I have some Topps football cards from a few years back (mid-2000s) where they photoshopped in a player’s new uni, and they were very clearly done in Photoshop. This looks like a genuine picture.

  • Could it not also be possible that the pic was taken in studio with him wearing the Marlins uniform and he was then photoshopped into the foreground of that image?

  • His necklace appears to be blue and orange so I am assuming they photoshopped the Miami onto it.

  • Thank you sandy alderson… you have done an incredible job as a GM of this team, and this picture says everything you need to know about the guidance of this team..

    • I see the horse still isn’t dead, and SA is the root of all evil and why Reyes isn’t here. Has NOTHING at all to do with the Wilpons and their lack of finances, just SA, all his fault.

    • Stalk much?????? Right, the way he handles the negotiation had nothing to do with his departure as well right.. the way he handles that was just classic. and here one thought ivy leaguers are supposed to be smart and educated.

      • Can you find another word in the English language and continue to misuse it, this one is getting old.

You are never going to learn, and I am the idiot to think otherwise.

  • I found the source for the pic.

  • Why didn’t they photoshop the Marlins’ bright orange jerseys on?!

  • Can someone burn this card please?

  • Why photoshop? Can’t they just leave him in the Mets uni…

  • Why do people out of no where now adore Reyes when in 2010 everyone called him a bum and should get rid of him but then with an MVP 2011 season everyone loves him and go out their way and say best offensive Met player ever and his fans (not Mets fans) made a website for him, posters, banners, the whole 9 about “Don’t Trade Reyes” and so Sandy kept him and then during the off season the marlins give him 6yrs 100+ million and now its Sandy’s fault we lost Reyes but not too long ago everyone praised him for giving Beltran the boot and bring in our best prospect, Zack Wheeler. Can people make up their minds? I say Sandy is just fine. Minaya is laughing right now with the Padres knowing he put us in a horrible financial state with bad contracts. Letting Reyes go in my opinion was exactly what we needed, a wake up call if you may to all the Met staff by saying “there’s no excuse of losing because our most injured players (Beltran & Reyes) are gone so we cant depend on no one but ourselves”.

On a different note, Reyes was a great lead off man and full of energy on/off the field. All I would miss is his energy and spirit to win, so hope the best for him off the field but on the field with the marlins “break a leg”. None the less I look at this as no different than when we lost Piazza (The TRUE best offensive force we ever had). Its just a new chapter in an old book.
