I agree 100%…..there would be NO harm in letting them all start at AA. They(in theory) are supposed to be our “future” rotation. Let them play together, and build a winning tradition “together”. If Harvey pitches lights out in his first 5 starts—-then move him to AAA. Look, if they all start together, then they can start a friendly competition between each other—–pushing each other to have a better start than yesterdays starter………….we ALWAYS heard that about the ’86 staff——Gooden, Darling, Fernandez, Ojeda—–all wanted to pitch better than the last guy. And lets be honest———–we aren’t close to winning it all at the big league level—-let them develop, so when they get there, they don’t have to go back…………

I think the ship has sailed on Moviel. He will not get a chance to start and will be lucky if he gets a chance to relieve and is not outright released.

Once again, a great article in this series. What we look for here is not the success of that team as a whole, but just a few prime prospects that work their may to the ML team and put it back on the road to success. If that happens, this team at Bingo will be worth its salt.

You may be right, but keep in mind that every player’s developmental curve is different, and what may be rushing one player could be taking a conservative approach with another. Look at Dwight Gooden. He pitched at single-A Lynchburg in 1983, and pitched in the big leagues the next year. That would be like pitching at St. Lucie last year and opening the season in the Mets rotation this year. Was Gooden rushed? Heck no! I saw him pitch all that year and he was over-matching big league hitters while winning 17 games. I’m not saying Harvey is Gooden. I’m not even saying Familia is Harvey. I’m just saying they both are developing at different speeds, and that their level of development has gotten them both to AAA at roughly the same time. For Familia it took him 4 minor league seasons and 430 professional innings pitched, to get to AAA. For Harvey it has taken 1 minor league season, and 135 professional innings. But Harvey comes from a major college pitching program where he was the “ace” of the staff, and he pitched there for three years. Doesn’t that experience translate to professional ball? I think it does. So who’s to say that starting either pitcher at AAA is rushing them lotus?

Am i the only one who thinks both Familia and Harvey will and SHOULD start the season at AA and only if they truly conquered it will they move on say June to Triple A? Whats with the rush? Harvey did have a good stretch at the end of the season but lets see if he can do it on a weekly basis. Same for Familia let him work his way up. PLEASE lets not rush these kids their time will come!

Thanks guys! You know who I’m real curious to see perform at the AA level, besides Wheeler and Gorski of course, is Josh Edgin. A hard throwing lefty reliever would be a welcome addition at Citi, and he could be a fast riser.

I’m hoping to see a huge year from Puelo and denDecker in the outfield this season, especially Puello who could become a permanent fixture at Citi if he fulfills expectations. This will be a big test for Wheeler who has struggled at times since turning pro and will now face a better class of hitters. Gorski will also have to prove that last season was more than a fluke as some have suggested. I love these 2012 Mets affiliate’s summaries, Pete. Great job!

Nice write up. Heavy on the analysis/opinion but not state light. Minor league stats are so hard to gauge…

What is it with these young men and injuries. Is it me or has these past 10 years or so seen a big jump in multiple and nagging injuries with these young kids?

Unfortunately for Bingo, this year’s players are more ‘maybe’ than ‘sure thing.’ Demonstrated strength is shown only in the OF, at C, and with a few at P. I’m not expecting much help for the Mets in a couple of years with these position players. Exceptions might be Marte, Ratliff, den Dekker, and Puello. The pitching is going to have to be very good for this team to come up big.
