I barely remember Stinson’s innings in Sep. but glad he got the chance to get some experience in what was a meaningless Sep for us.

Sounds like attitude-wise, he’s on the right track. Now if he can translate that into skill, maybe we’ll be seeing him sooner rather than later in that BP.

I agree but I have to wonder how much of it was league? Even that can increase your WHIP and decrease other stats. Was it that he was pushing himself more with the Mets? Was it that the talent faced was not as good? Did a pitching coach say something to him that made it click?

Jessep, I don’t think “swingman” is the ceiling you want to give one of your prospects. He may turn out that way, but you can’t limit him to that role so early in his career/development. He should be given the ball every fifth day in Buffalo until it’s his turn to do that in Queens. If that doesn’t work out, then try alternate roles for him.

I still say it was a mutually beneficial deal. Beltran performed very well for them. The Giants were in a spot to win their division, had a very glaring need and addressed it. Sabean’s fault was to not have a better team going into the deal.

Do you think it verifies your point more by saying he is getting a lap dance from another poster? Couldn’t you perhaps say something that would not get you thrown out of your 6th grade class?

When did he say his starts with the Mets didn’t count? In the other post he said his WHIP was 1.33, and 1.33 was his WHIP for both the Mets and the Giants – So he’s counting his starts for both teams.

Didn’t necessarily say it was the wrong move. I do think that they could have called Sandy’s bluff and gotten Beltran for someone of much less significance. Even going into that week most around baseball said there was no way in hell they were giving up Wheeler for a rental.

They didn’t cave to any pressure. The held out to try and get the best deal sure but they did what they felt they had to do to WIN. There is nothing more important in sports than winning.

The Giants had a chace, Buster Posey wasn’t coming back and they needed a bat to stay in contention and did the right thing they had to do AT THAT TIME. By saying “caving in” you are second guessing because the Giants wound up not getting into the playoffs.

But they took a RISK, made the right move in order to try and win it just didn’t work out. But it was not the wrong move

It isn’t about Alderson being a genius, patient yeah… it could have also backfired.

I’m not naive enough to believe he was swapped for 8 weeks of an aging outfielder with bad knees because Alderson was a genius. I’m wondering why the real reason the Giants were so willing to give up on him and I’m sure it wasn’t because he was dominating in the California league, he wasn’t. There were big concerns about him.

You’re probably right especially considering his time in AAA last year, he is still young enough to keep pitching every 5th day in Buffalo and who knows maybe you have something there.

Of course no reason to look that they are in different leagues and one is known for pitching and one is known for hitting. No reason to notice that the average runs per game in the California league is a over a run higher… No reason to notice that his ERA in 6 games in the FLA league was 2.00.

Petey: I know this was discussed earlier prior to Rule 5 regarding 40 man roster. I hope to see Stinson in the pen this year. To me he fills a Carrasco role without being a wasted contract.
