Bret was being modest in saying high 80s. He is consistently in the low 90s and touched 95 a few times last season. He has also been told by many scouts and even pitching instructor Frank Viola that he already has a “major league” curveball. His changeup will be a plus pitch this season as he used his fastball-changeup combo almost exclusively in a couple of those big strikeout games for Kingsport. If you look at his stats he does not walk many, so control is not a big issue and also whoever said he pitches to contact must not have looked at Bret’s stats. At every level he has averaged almost a strikeout per inning. Which is not a “contact” pitcher at all. Also in the above mentioned game, Bret was throwing with a pulled groin, which could have led to not throwing as hard as he normally does. But also should show the moxie this kid has. He is a pitcher’s, pitcher who loves and respects the game.

I've heard from a few people that Muno should have probably started out a higher level last season and that he was far more advanced than anyone else in the NY Penn League. Would love to know what the plans are for him in 2012.

I was at that Cyclones/Yankees game in Staten Island and Mitchell pitched a solid game. According to my scorecard he only allowed one earned run not two and he got out of a couple of jams and looked very composed on the mound but not overpowering. He pitches to contact.

Danny Muno and Javier Rodriguez were the stars of the game. It was my first look at Muno and he batted leadoff but looked like a slugger to me. He had one of the two big hits in the game with a two run double to the wall to tie the game and then after a single moved Muno to third, Rodriguez blasted a three run homer to take a 5-2 lead over the Skanks. Muno picked up another RBI in the next inning.

I always pick an MVP after I score a game and I split it between Muno and Rodriguez. Together they combined for 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 doubles, 1 homer and 7 RBIs!

Rodriguez reminded me of Burnitz a real hacker at the plate, but Muno looked more polished and seems like a future major leaguer to me. He has the goods.
