Than what is that? Your comments always reek of duplicity. I’ve noticed that. And Dickey is certainly not cream of the crop in that list or any list…yet. People who speak out of both sides of their mouths usually engage in duplicity.

And you say I’m overmatched? Like that other clown Dopey Joe Diaz? Obviously that’s not true and you know it so you’re lying to yourself and making yourself look stupid by saying that out there. Sure you may not like me, i’m rude, i get p’o'd a LOT here lately and there’s people I don’t like and I let them know it. I may not always be right, no one is…but I’m not overmatched by any stretch of the imagination. Alex is there a Met you do like? Dickey has been a pretty damn good pitcher for us for 2 years now. I didn’t even realize he’s 11th in ERA the kast 2 years as Vinny pointed out. Out of 150 starters that’s not too shabby. He is our ace.

Oh and to equate R.A. Dickey with Hoyt Wilhelm and call him “the cream of the crop”, well that’s just downright foolish. If Dickey can give us 5 to 7 more years of this than maybe we can start making comparisons.

While Dickey has been pitching good and he finished off strong after getting off to a good start last year it is WAY, WAY too early to compare him with any career knuckleballers. What if he’s done after this year? Or fizzles out again? I hope not but it can happen. You have to think about that before classifying him with people who have made a career out of being knuckleballers.

You would think a person who has watched baseball for 50 years would be experienced enough to know this. Evidently not.

This granddad has seen all of them and a couple I didn’t mention. My point is that Wilhelm has been the best and Dickey is very good.

Alex68 — RA Dickey’s WHIP over the past two years put him in the elite class — 1.19 in 2010 and 1.23 in 2011. With his pitches, he sometimes looks like a guy who shouldn’t be among the best, but he really is. He is very intelligent and it has helped him a lot I think when he plans his game.

Here are some of the other knucklers I’ve seen:
Hoyt Wilhelm (the best)
Phil Niekro
Tim Wakefield
Bob Purkey
Wilbur Wood
Charlie Hough
Tom Candiotti

Alex, the last two seasons Dickey’s ERA is 3.08. That’s tied for 11th best in the major leagues. That’s lower than Sabathia, Price, Lester, Carpenter, Oswalt, and Dan Haren…..I’m not saying he’s better than those guys, but I’m just tyring to show how good he’s been the last two years.

By the way, the only pitchers that had a lower ERA than Dickey the last two years are: Halladay, Kershaw, Weaver, Lee, Felix, Verlander, Hamels, Cain, Hudson, and Cueto.

Again I think it depends on how you define good?

Are Aces good, great or elite? Based on stats Dickey is WELL above average and would have to fall in the good but not great category. Start looking around the league and find pitchers with those stats the past two years. You would be surprised what company that puts him with.
