An Amazin’ Collection Of Mets Caps

Here’s a shot of my friend Bryan Thompson’s amazing collection of Mets caps!

That’s 28 caps in all, but there may have been a new addition or two during the holidays, I’ll have to ask him about that. ;-)

I love that khaki green colored one in the second row and the blue cap with Mets in script behind it.

Do you collect any Mets memorabilia, baseball cards, caps, jerseys or oddball items?

  • I have 90 hats, give or take. Not a typo, 90. That includes 13 Jets hats and 10 Miami Hurricanes hats. I went there. Got my degree from another university, but that’s another story. I also have a little something from each ballpark I’ve been to, which luckily consists of some of the older ones before they got torn down. I’ve been to Shea and Citi, old and new Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Tiger Stadium, Dolphins Stadium (Pro-Player at the time), The Vet and Citizens Bank, RFK when the Nats played there (yet to visit the new one), Camden Yards, Wrigley, Miller Park, and Dodger Stadium (not for a game, though…took a tour while in LA on business).

My souvenir of choice is a shot glass. I’m not a drinker, but they tend to be sturdy, cheap, transportable, easy to store/display and usually rather ornate. I also have a ton of souvenir cups from the concession stands. The $6 ones that hold less liquid than the $4 larges? I get the new one each year. Odd thing to collect, but I get thirsty at games anyway, so it’s also practical.

Thanks, Kelly. This is a fun topic.

  • At first I thought the one with a santa hat over the Mets symbol was a Phillies hat.

  • Nice pictures for a cold winter day, Kelly. Thanks.

By the way, with your love that khaki green colored one in the second row, are you a military brat?

  • I have about 12-15 Mets caps including many of the ones pictured. I read that in 2012 the Mets will be wearing the traditional blue one for all home games to honor the 62 team. I cant stand the hybrid black/blue hats and it looks like they are finally phasing black out altogether..

    • I don’t have many Mets hats because I’m a purist and a traditionalist. Blue hat with orange NY. That’s the Mets hat. I have a road hat and an alternative hat, but that’s all. None of my hats have ever or will ever have black in it.

  • Nice…

  • That is very cool! :-)

  • I only have the one (classic style) hat (plus maybe one or two old beat up hats from when I was a kid, and the sundae cup helmet of course, but I don’t think that counts…), but since baseball cards were mentioned, I’ve been working on getting scans of the entire history of game-used and autograph cards of current/former Mets players up on the web (currently at 270 players, though that includes 23 that never made it to the majors and another 25 currently in the system, plus a few more that I’m missing). The whole thing will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000 pieces, but so far I’ve only got the Mets pinstripes up (68 total pieces, everything but the Puello). Give me another year or so and I should have the whole thing sorted out (I only set the web site up last week…).

  • Nice collection Bryan!!! I have about 30 hats also but I have a couple of duplicates because my old ones got worn out. But other than hats just about everything I have I try to find in Mets!!
