Wright Weighs In On Reyes
David Wright has issued the following statement regarding Jose Reyes:
“Jose’s a great friend and a great player. While I will miss him as a friend and teammate, I’m glad he was able to get the contract that he earned and deserved. I truly wish him all the best in Miami. I have trust and faith that we will have a much improved and exciting team and 2012 will be a great year for the Mets.”
Nice to hear the Mets elder statesman weigh in. Wright is now the longest tenured player on the team.

So David has figured out that faith is needed to help the Mets since his GM is a total failure at improving the team.
Hard for the GM to ‘improve’ the team when the Wilpons’ Sterling Mets are dead broke.
That wasn’t his first comment concerning Reyes signing with the Marlins.
The first one was more along the lines of (and I’m paraphrasing here):
‘We came up together, we grew up here together and we thought we’d win a championship together – especially (or came close?) in 2006. Can’t believe I’m going to be looking to my left and no longer see Jose there. I wish him well in Miami and he deserves that contract.’
‘As far as going forward, I’ll play out my two years here and see where we go from there’.
Initial reaction seems to be along the lines of the same as many of us who wanted to see Jose stay.
Also, that’s the first time I ever heard any comments from him that alluded to he just might not be a Met for his entire career or if you want to read between the lines – that he might not want to stay here much longer.
Wright’s a lot of things…declining, hairline receding, pretty…but he’s not dumb. He knows, unless he retires sometime in 2012, he will definitely not be “a Met for his entire career.” Hopefully, his Met on-field tenure ended in 2011…trading Wright would be akin to a mercy killing…he deserves to go elsewhere and the Mets need to trade him now while he still has value (if his decline continues in 2012, and considering the lineup around him there is no reason to believe it won’t, then his trade value diminshes as well…i.e. Angel Pagan).
Cahill got sent to DBacks with Breslow for Jarrod Parker.
Nice deal for both squads. Parker could be ready this year, Cahill a nice arm to join a playoff rotation. I like Cahill a lot, he gets the job done.
Kennedy, Cahill and Hudson is dirty. Just plain filthy.
Wright is just a guy whose co-worker took a job somewhere else. What do people want from him ? Tolstoy ? Give him an effin break.
Billy Beane and Sandy Alderson trading stars when they’re not 100% sure they can compete. Maybe it should be called “QuitterBall” instead of Moneyball
Trading young stars huh? Cahill is traded and now we hear Saber Sandy will listen to offers for Ike Davis. I guess these guys will trade anybody at any given time if there is a financial risk somewhere – anywhere. Forget trying to win and always giving your team a shot to make the playoffs if you can.
I also get a kick out of the 2 Oakland A lovers above raving about the Cahill trade. I guess any sensational news about the A’s gets these guys going. It’s all about philosophy and less about doing what you can to win
Bayonne,
“Cahill got sent to DBacks with Breslow for Jarrod Parker. Nice deal for both squads. Parker could be ready this year, Cahill a nice arm to join a playoff rotation. I like Cahill a lot, he gets the job done.”
That’s me raving? Maybe your eyes are still watery from the crying you’ve done all week.
The A’s are trying to lessen payroll and near arbitration commitments because they are trying to move to San Jose so they hope that when they do, a guy like Parker for example is where Cahill is today. They also aren’t dumb and see Texas and LAA and know a christmas miracle would have to happen to be able to compete for the division right now.
Cahill is probably one of the best groundball pitchers in the sport, so going to a hitters park like Arizona is a nice grab for the DBacks in my opinion.
Parker is a nice get to Oakland for the future plans.
No raving, good trade by both teams to fit both of their needs.
I’m still hoping Ike gets dealt just so you stick to your word and leave and quit being a Mets fan. I don’t want Ike to leave for the sake of the team but if it means getting rid of you, I’ll take it.
He’s not happy unless he’s miserable. You know the old saying, misery loves company. He must be a joy to be around.
Maybe he’s in training to be the next Jim Jones, the guy from Guyana.
Cracks me up how someone who says they played a game, knows everything just ask, gets their fruit of the loom in a bunch over this, every year at this time, every GM listens to offers for every player.
This is not new.
Kay! If Sandy said the opposite and said he will not listen to offers for guys like Wright,Ike etc…He would be complaining that Sandy is not doing his job by not listening to offers from other GM’s because he’s not trying to compete.Damned if you do,damned if you don’t.
Wright says all the ‘right’ things but the keyboard losers who call themselves Mets fans continue to snipe. Keep it up you whiners until nobody wants to play here. Is that your objective? Facts about the Wilpons’ resources don’t change your views. Trying to make the best of a very difficult situation is beyond your grasp — and certainly beyond your commitment to the remaining players.
Well said Des!
LOL, Can you imagine the weight of the world on Wright’s shoulders now? He couldn’t handle the pressure when he had Delgado, Beltran and Reyes here, now look at him. He’ll be hung out to dry in 2012 and there’s no chance he’ll want to stay here as long as these people running the show are still here. I predict a sub .260 season for Wright, tons of strikeouts, lots of boos at home, and possibly a nervous breakdown.
You would think that after watching him for a year they’d realize he’s not a leader-type guy and doesn’t want that responsibility. Now he’ll have that responsibility like it or not.
Kranepool you’re a mediocrity guru. You should know about it. lol.
Ed Kranpool’s career AVG is .261. He hit 118 homers in 18 seasons. In ten of the 18 seasons, his homer total was in single digits. No wonder you’re looking for mediocrity.
