Fair enough amazin. I believe that Reyes did want to stay though. I agree that the Mets – the new money-poor mets – did not want to pay market value to such a valuable player.

I also agree that it was wrong to let Capuano go.

Imagine a family realizing they are broke because they got greedy on a too-good-to-be-true investment scam. Now they have rounded up everything in their house and put it on ebay. That’s where the Wilpons are at. Sandy’s job is to take digital pictures of all of their valuables and manage the ebay account.

It’s sad – and criminal.

“Two different cases altogether. While Reyes only cared about money, Wright is loyal and a true team player. He deserves a 5 year deal and he’ll get one. Plus he’s not injury prone like Reyes.”

To be honest, Wright hasn’t been in Reyes’ position yet. We’ll see what happens when Wright is up for a big payday.

Maybe the Wright offers are so bad because all the other 29 teams consider him to be what I’ve said for years, that he’s an above average third baseman offensively, and a bad defender who consistently ranks among the worst third baseman in the league. Throw in that his best/peak season was five years ago. What could you possibly expect for a player like that?

The focus has to be stockpiling young pitching. Look at the Phillies–despite the well known names in their lineup, their offense stunk for the most part. But they finished first. You can have mediocre offense and finish first. You can even have a good enough offense without big names. But you must have strong starters to do that.

See-I think the only teams that can afford to pay people not to go to a division rival are the Yanks and the Red Sox. It is just bad business. And after the Madoff bad business, it does not pay to do more bad business. It is even bad business for the Yanks or the Red Sox. They just don’t care.

I agree on that point. What will speak volumes for Wright is if he takes into account the Mets current situation.

Everybody seems to give Reyes a pass on that. If he wanted to stay here he would have. Just like LeBron taking off his jersey in his final Cavs game, Reyes took himself out at Citi Field when people paid to see him play. He knew he was gone. He wanted to get paid.

Now if Wright doesn’t get traded, lets see what he does. I guarantee you 1 thing. He won’t take himself out of his final Mets home game. But we’ll wait and see

as Clint Eastwood said in “Unforgiven”: “deserves got nothing to do with it.” Just being a good guy does not entitle you to a 5 year contract. New sheriff in town. If they think Wright has peaked, or that they can get something potentially better for the long run, he will be history, too. They may just be waiting for him to have a productive start. They might consider it suicidal to trade them both the same off season. I know Wright controls his option year, but if a team is in contention, they can do crazy things, as the Giants showed us last year.

not so sure they will trade wright but it’s going to be a team where you root for them and enjoy the rookies have their milestones. sandy can expect to lose another 70 million this year. i guess that all works out for them accounting wise.

Wright has a ways to go in establishing more value for himself. He’s been in a decline and hopefully the changes to Citifield reverses that trend. If that happens I’m sure Wright will be traded mid season.

Rosario is a possibility but Pomeranz is not getting traded for a one year rental.They gave up Ubaldo Jiminez to get this kid and he has frontline stud upside.I was stunned Cleveland traded him for Jiminez considering the year Jiminez was haviing.

Wright hasn’t performed well enough the last few years to warrant a 5 year extension,especially since we have him for 2 more years.That makes no sense.He has to show he’s not in decline now that the fences are moved in before even considering a commitment like that.

Allowing Wright the opportunity to redeem himself yields several benefits, including but not limited to redeeming his trade value, contributing to next year’s team success, maintaining some semblance of continuity for a traumatized fan base and, last but not least, the possibility that he rediscovers the very special player that he is in a NY Met uniform.

That said – if Colorado offered us blue chip pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz & catching stud Wilin Rosario, I’d think about it.
