Jose Reyes should not be booed as he always gave his all to this team. Unfortunately, our financial situation was the cause with all due respect to the risk of re-signing him.

Met fans will be looking at a few lean years now until the team can be improved and ownership will need to drastically drop ticket prices and make other concessions to the fans if they want to put any of them in the seats at Citi Field. Banner Day has been resurrected. They will need to pick up the tab by having Old Timers Day again and a good giveaway like Bat Day. Lower parking fees and cheaper concession prices would help too. A family of four shouldn’t have to spend 200 dollars to see a ballgame. ARE YOU LISTENING FRED?

The bottom line is that ownership needs to make some serious decisions on how to show the fans some respect for their long term loyalty. How about a Mike Piazza day? Give away 25,000 Piazza T Shirts and retire # 31 would be a good attraction. Put up a statue of the “Franchise” and show some respect for what he did for the Mets.

The Dodgers are gone Fred……get over it. Honoring Jackie Robinson in the rotunda was fine and the look of Ebbets Field was okay.

Fans want more emphasis on OUR HEROES……NOT YOURS!

I agree Izzy, Citifield will be a “ghost town” in 2012. I will miss Reyes for sure. I just knew he and Wright would be franchise staples for 15+ years. I know people will continue to say you don’t slap that kind of money down on questionable hamstrings but seeing him go is just a “kick in the head”. Maybe if the Mets win in 2006 we would be at a different juncture in baseball, but alas here we are in 2011. Now with the money they would have spent on Reyes, go get Buerhle, Jackson, some bullpen help, a centerfielder, a leftfielder, and another catcher. lol

I have no problem with Reyes signing somewhere else for a ridiculous contract.

However, I am a Mets fan. Reyes is no longer a Met. Will I go out of my way to boo him? No. But he is the enemy now. He is just as evil as every player who isnt a Met. I’ll wax nostalgic about his time with the Mets after he retires. Until then, I hope he sucks.

LOL, put biased aside Alex. The reason they will not trade Wright at this point is that his value is lower than it will be most likely at any point in his remaining 2 years. READ the post buddy. If they get blown away? Sure. That won’t happen until he rebounds. So as I said we are both stuck doing the same thing. Cheering like hell for Wright…. Ha.

Why would you wanna kee wright? to do what?? he’s a known choker who can’t handle the pressure, and without reyes now, his 100 rbi’s years, will have to be HARD EARNED, he’ll know be force to hit in the clutch to get rbi’s, unless like some idiot said here, hitting a grounder to 2B with 1 out and a man on third is clutch, then he’s good

Tell you what, sandy had said reyes was his priority, and if this is the way you treat your priority i can not imagine how everything else that was secondary will follow… funny thing is, he won’t even get the second round pick, he’ll get the third. and if marlins sign pujols, he’ll get the 4th round pick.. amazing.. but hey, when a team loses $70 million… on god knows what, stuff like this tends to happen.

Actually according to those things you hate, stats, Reyes was the biggest choker during that tenure. However, as a team they did not get it done regardless.

As for your point on Wright, now would be an idiotic time to trade him. His value is low and has that option issue to deal with. Keep him until July and see how he rebounds and what his value is. If it is high then you trade him. If not then you wait until the same time in 2013. What it does allow is time to see what they have in other areas. Maybe if guys like Wheeler, Harvey, Tejada, Havens, Davis, Duda, Murphy…. work out then there will be a need to keep Wright. If not then see ya.

If it nets you Arrendondo (sp?) or the Reds’ Catching prospect or Burjos + some, then absolutely. I’d be worried that we would see the team selling low on him.

I cheered Piazza and I’ll cheer Beltran. At least the first PA.

Reyes, well as long as he shows some love for NY, then I’ll cheer for his first PA.
After that, he’s just another Marlin.

Reyes made his intention clear that he wanted to go to the market and got blown away by a huge offer. I can’t be mad about that. I’s not like he was creating the same circus LeBron James did.

Ok, fair enough, then might as well include wright right? trade him for more prospect and get as more money as you can, why pay $15 million to an overrated 3rd baseman who hit 254 and is known as one of the biggest choker in franchise history, might as well start anew.

I don’t expect or even want him to spend all that money this off-season. The market is crap. Invest the money in scouting, pay back some of the loans that are killing the team in interest. Lets find out what they have in guys like Duda, Davis, Tejada, Gee, Harvey, Wheeler, Havens, Murphy, etc then make moves for 2013. Jose Reyes would not have helped a damn this year regardless.

Why boo Reyes? Boo the Marlins, it’s natural. Can’t fault Reyes for taking a huge over the top contract. It’s baseball, life happens. It’s not like the Reyes that played after the injury was worth anything more than a 4 year contract really.

Exactly, Sandy alderson gave no indication that the money will be used to acquire players to help the franchise WIN, which is a word that is prohibited it seems in his vocabulary

Very well said. If management had done a better job 2007-2010, this could have been avoided. Alderson is dealing with the reality he was handed, not one of his own creation.

Besides, when I think of “the number 7″ and “the Mets”, I think of the subway first, Jose Reyes second. Even a Hall of Fame career wouldn’t have changed that.
