Anyway I personally wish R.A. a great trip and hope he has a great time and is safe. The Mets may or may not be “Punting” on 2012 ( I HATE football analogies for MLB) but they have at least one individual worth following during the season.

I know you hate how people trap you by taking things you actually said in context and continue to repeat and use it against you.

Beltran would have taken 20 M less. Bay hemmed and hawed until there was just no other choice. Delgado did go elsewhere. So did Zito. Castillo needed to get an extra year or he would have gone to Houston.

The guys who did come here came for the money or because there were no other options. That’s not the case with the NYY’s. Players WANT to go there, not to say that that they get every guy they want, just that most guys are happy to go there.

One characteristic of a winning organization is that they have a lot of in house solutions to needs that arise, either at the position of need or an abundance somewhere else that they can then use to talk to any team about any player rather than just being restricted to the most expensive solution, which frequently turns out to be a guy you can’t even give away for nothing.

When Keith Hernandez was traded here he contemplated retirement. It was only Frank Cashen talking to him about the Gooden’s, Darling’s and Fernandez’s that convinced Keith to sign on and while we finally do have some guys in the upper levels of the minors to talk about, we now have no hope of increasing the payroll and about 40 M of the 90 is extremely questionable.

It’s a long season and a hell of a lot more fun to win than lose, especially with the likleyhood of being booed all season thrown in on top why would a guy want to come here?

Yet, somehow, MLB Trade Rumors ran with it.

But, on the bright side, props to Clayton for getting some national attention.

Not surprising he would say that, but not because it was the Mets. You would likely have gotten the same answer about any team that was not a serious playoff contender next season. Typical for a guy that probably should call it quits, and has made a ton of money, that if they are coming back for 1 more year, it is goingt o be with a team that might get them a ring.

but, it does point out an important fact. Just because the GM did not sign player X, Y and Z, does not mean they did not want to or did not try. It may be that they wanted to go elsewhere.
