Murphy has hurt his knee three times in recent years. I like his bat, too, but it may be time to get something for him.

Sure, who cares? We’re in the cellar anyway. What difference does it make! Dan Murphy: possible decent hitter, no hands. We won’t be winning any games with or without him, so give him away for whatever. Send David Wright packing somewhere also and put Flores at 3rd and Havens at 2nd. Change the name of the team to the NY Binghamtons. It’s all over, so why even talk about this chump change stuff?

Question– with more inter league play planned shouldn’t there be more DH opportunity?? If so, it may be worth hanging onto Murph..plus he does offer mets the flexibility they desire with his ‘ability’ to play multiple positions..at the same time I’d be interested in what other teams are offering..

I suggest you visit either an eye doctor to get yourself some regular glasses as opposed to your rose colored ones or learn a thing a or two about baseball. You appear to not see the obvious. Murphy is a kickball player…he kicks every ground ball. Lets not talk about his great base running skills.

I agree with your last statement, but probably only b/c they want to increase Wright’s value and are probably hoping he has a great first half before entertaining offers.

I think Wright has a better chance of being moved than Murphy at this point. I still think we’ll have to wait until the trade deadline before Wright is moved.

With Jose Reyes gone, a move incidentally that I thought the Mets would not let happen, I’ve changed my mind. I think David Wright will probably go also. Letting Reyes and Wright go is a huge mistake. It will tick off Mets fans at a time when more empty seats are the last thing needed.

Having said this, if Wright goes, Murphy should go to third base and provide the Mets with some line drive gap hits. If Havens is rehabilitated as the Mets are counting on, the Mets will have Murphy, Havens and Ike as really good bats. If Tejada can get on base via walks or bingles, we’re set in the infield for a while. I’m not sure Murphy is a perennial top 10 hitter, but he’s going to be in the top 20 for sure. Jorday Valdespin isn’t ready defensively or above the shoulders, but if and when he is, we’ll have some really good infield hitters.

You had right up to that last sentence. But ya, I see no reason to trade a bat like Murphy for Angel Pagan 2.0, especially with Capt Kirk looking to be that as well, with less speed but more pop.

Andy Dirks straight up for Daniel Murphy? Is that what is being proposed?
We need to some to some sort of conclusion as just how good of a hitter Murphy really is and can be? Is Murphy simply a good young hitter who has not yet faced with the chllange of major league changing their approach to him?
Or is Murphy a truly gifted perennial top 10 league hitter who has shown the ability to adapt as pitchers change their approach to him?
I guess this is where the scouting gurus that Alderson has hired come into play.
If the Mets trade Murphy for a at best run-of-the-mill center-fielder who is most likely more of a 4th outfielder than we know that the Mets feel Murphy is not a perennial 1op 10 hitter.
I see Andy Dirks as a more consistent “Angel Pagen” but without all the bells and whistles, less speed, less offensive pop. Why do we need another 4th outfielder masquerading as an everyday starting major league outfielder? We already have two, Lucus Duda and Angel Pagen.
I think Murphy is a perennial top 10 hitter who is going to develop some power. (15-20 home runs a year) I wouldn’t trade Murphy at this point. I think his upside may be more than we have anticipated.
Play Murphy at 3rd base, move Wright to the outfield and trade Duda in a package for pitching..
