Ideally you get jose + everything else you need, but sadly, the broke situation of Sterling Mets dictated you can have one or the other at best.

The Mets front-office (and manager) was quite confident in the beginning of the season (as was I) that the team was good. After the All Star break it was obvious the injuries were devastating and the team wouldn’t be what they had hoped.

I know it seems to be the same story every year. But it truly is incredible–the amount of injuries this team constantly has. I’m not young and I’ve never seen anything like it.

Every year there are scrubs/MiL signings/cheap FAs that have unextctedly good years. And 29 GMs passed on them. so hell yeah, every GM after the fact would say yes, looking at what guys did, I could have spent my money on better players.

You DON’T have a bad offseason, Period. Especially if you’re the highest paid front office in baseball with the team that has one of the lowest payrolls (assuming that’s true)

and plenty of successful GMs have played close to the vest. They should. How can blabbing all your plans help you?

And working that way does not mean you aren’t trying to get players or to win. Just that you don’t talk to reporters about it.

and if nothing else, you can try to be creative, but you can’t spend more than the resources you have.

I always just look at it as Reyes + 3-4 1mill or less guys filling out the roster vs. no Jose, but 4 mid-priced (5 mill) guys with more talent to fill out the roster. Just remains to be seen where.

Pick any spot where there are decent players for that money (closer? Catcher?). Choose between 2 of them or parnell and Nickeas, and you get the idea.

Plus Miami has spectacular seafood. Maybe that’s a negative for Jose, who may avoid Miami due to thyroid issues. (I’ll be here all week. Try the veal…)
