New Take on ‘Casey at the Bat’ Praised by Tom Seaver, MLB Legends

The Deal Is on Strike Three: The Story Mudville Never Knew

I had the chance to meet the authors of a children’s book that takes a different look at the famous poem “Casey at the Bat.”

In “The Deal is on Strike Three: The Story Mudville Never Knew,” Long Islanders Peter Fertig and Rudy Saviano explore the story behind Casey and the Mudville nine.

Hall of Famer and Mets legend Tom Seaver was so inspired by the book that he voluntarily wrote the foreword.

Cal Ripken Jr. and the late Bob Feller also endorsed the book. It’s a good read, and the authors have big plans.

  • Very nice article, Jim. Dis you get a chance to thumb through the book?

    • Yeah, it’s a quick read, it’s a long poem just like the original Casey poem. It sets up the back story to the original epic. Quite interesting!

  • Nice article Jim. Looks like a nice book. I clicked the link to the books webpage and it has a nice slide show with illustrations of what you will see inside the book.
