It is a sad day that we all knew was coming. Jose’ is the second greatest homegrown player in Mets history and it is just that now – all history! What a travesty that he is gone (to a better place) without even an offer from trhe Mets. WHAT A DISGRACE! No Mets games for me for at least several years. When in Florida, I will try to catch some Marlins games to root for Jose’. Citifield can burn down as much as I care.

Our self-appointed genius GM labeled Jose’ as eyewash for a team that is not good enough to obtain value from his talents. What an insult! That alone should have convinced Jose’ to walk. Thanks SA for nothing. Why don’t you take a hike off a cliff. I will drive you there personally if you wish.

Next up – David. SA should be starting his campaign shortly to insult him so he can sign with an aggressive team somewhere outside of NY. Let’s continue to flush out the eyewash and see how far into the cellar we can bury ourselves.

My prediction stands, it will be at least 2020 before the rebuilding begins. We are still in self-destruction mode now and rebuilding is far off in the future.

There is no crying in BB, but this brings you pretty darn close!

Joe, Today’s static look at the Reyes signing is not what baseball people and the fans will see in 2-4 years. I don’t know about the Yankee connection but I completely agree that the Marlins will be looking to unload the Reyes contract for years 5-6 at a minimum.

Giving six year contracts is nuts. Maybe Tulo gets a pass because of his overall skills, not depending mostly on his legs, but that contract is probably nuts too.

Love all the true blue fans coming out – I hate this, I hate that………..wake up – Reyes was gone a LONG time ago. Reyes always has and always be about Reyes and no one else.

This will be a record day on all the stupid comments about Alderson, this is ALL his fault, his fault that the Wilpons have not a dime.

The guy had lots of contact with Greenberg, but because no formal offer made it’s ALL HIS FAULT.

FACE IT FANS – Reyes doesn’t care about YOU – he cares about the $$$$$ I don’t blame him, but if you think this is all Alderson’s fault – I have a bridge to sell you.

He won a batting title and they won 77 games last year.The minute he goes on the dl and misses 40 games lets see how the marlins like paying him.Jose was a lot of fun to watch.This fanbase is always wrong.The front office always tries to placate the fan base to its detriment.Most of the yo yo’s on this site never attend a game anyway.Everybody is always whinng about playing the young guys.Folks, you can’t have it both ways.If they stink the next few years, Alderson will get fired and we can rehire Minaya.The only thing worse than watching this lose is all the shining done on this website.

Cashen? Dude That was a long time ago. The game has changed and Aldersons idea of a proper contract is not going to change anything except the Mets’ chances of winning ball games. (unless he becomes the next comish) I know Jose chose the Marlins but man how can the Mets just let him walk without even matching the offer. This whole thing has been handled terribly IMO. I’m not throwing out the baby with the bath water but I’m definately saying that The Mets are a far better team with Reyes than without him.

You know I see what Alderson is doing or at least has been doing but to me it’s a little childish. He does not believe in making long term deals. He made fun of deals done last winter and is proving again that he will not do it. Well mister it must be nice to be able to stand on some B.S. principals and not care if you lose your job over it because your boss is only concerned with how much money you aren’t spending to make this team better. He obviously doesn’t care about this team or these fans. Losing Reyes is unforgivable. He is your best player and your are going to let him go to a rival becuase of some misguided principle. ARGHHHHHH

Look, my man, I’m not happy about Reyes leaving either. But Reyes is not responsible for 20+ wins. This team is not going to contend for a WS ring, but it also is not going to be the 2011 Astros. It’s like the Mets should have lost every game the Jose was on the DL. I heard Jose walks on water, but only when it’s frozen…

I’m very happy that Mets fans weren’t around for the original stock market crash. There wouldn’t be enough pine boxes…

The worst part of this is that the picks received in return aren’t as good had the Tigers signed him.

Well, assuming the same $ is still in the budget for this season, let us see a Francisco signing, a Capps/Lidge signing (and no, I do not want Lidge) and Pagan traded as well. And at this point, I would not be against trading Wright if he brought a ransom, though I would suspect his best value will come at the trade deadline on this coming year.
