Marlins Sign Jose Reyes, It’s A Black Day For Mets Franchise

The Marlins and Jose Reyes ave agreed to a six-year, $110 million deal, according to a tweet from FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal. ESPN.com’s Buster Olney is also reporting that the deal is done.
Sandy Alderson spoke to the media tonight and said the following…
- According to Adam Rubin and Andy Martino, Sandy Alderson is addressing reporters and said that if the reported offer to Jose Reyes is true, the Mets are out.
- Alderson says Mets made no concrete offer to Reyes.
- Sandy Alderson not committing to Daniel Murphy at 2b, but said they’re not pivoting to pursue free agent 2B.
- Alderson says Mets are not conceding 2012.
This sucks Mets fans. I mean it really burns. To lose one of the best homegrown position players in team history without even an offer? Wow, I didn’t think stuff like that happened in New York… I thought those types of things only happened in Oakland or San Diego…
Already, the defenders are coming out in full force…
Eno Sarris of Fangraphs tweeted that it was Wilpon’s fault that Alderson didn’t trade Jose Reyes. I told him that was a bunch of bunk and that I disagreed.
If you weren’t going to pony up $100m+ for Reyes, why didn’t you trade him last year? Wilpons’ fingerprints.
Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog is saying he would have gonje six years after months of talking about 3 or 4 year deals….
Personally, I would have given him a six-year deal. I mean, seriously, what’s the difference at that point?

I will have a ton more to say tomorrow, but here is one truth… today is a black day for the Mets franchise.

Second broken heart in 6 months… this is insane. Its going to be a totally different landscape.
totally different is right. david wright could hit 300 and have 180 hits and still not drive in 100 runs cause reyes will not be on base. santana (not that i really believe he will) could hand over 25 6th or 7th inning leads and still not win 17 games with the crappy bullpen and mediocre closers we are going to have (new acquisitions won’t help either). and even if jason does well, (and i don’t know how when he, wright and ike davis will be the only big bats in the lineup), there still will be no sparkplug in there to get things going ! PREDICTION !!!,…. AT LEAST 100 LOSSES AND THE WORST ATTENDANCE FOR ANY MET TEAM EVER ! EAT CHIT COUPONS !

hey rachel,.. now it’s time for us to do the only thing we can. the coupons hurt us so now we can hurt them the only way we can. BBOOYYCCOOTT !! don’t watch their games, don’t buy their gear and DON’T go to their games ! as bad as we were last year, we were still exciting underdogs who played to win. now we are a ragtag bunch of players all hoping to find a way off this island. to hell with the coupons and chiti-field until those jerks sell the team !
Miami seafood puts Reyes on DL for half of 2012 season. Put that in the books!
i wish reyes well njstuckintx,… and after him i will wish david wright well, and after him i will wish ike davis well. then i wish whoever else from our farm system succeeds in the big leagues cause they will soon leave as well. do u really think that if matt harvey comes up and wins lets say 15 games his first year, 16 to 18 his second year and 18 or more in his third year, that he’ll be here for a fourth or fifth year if the coupons are still here ? the mets have officially descended into the dark ages. they will be out of contention before april is over and will lose at least 100 games with no sparkplug, no run producer, a lame left fielder a thirdbaseman who will now definitely want out, a weak starting rotation and a rag tag collection of mediocre relievers. and even a bullpen with 5 mariano rivera’s can’t save games we don’t have a lead in. once again, the dark ages have begun and i won’t be a part of it. throwing away some mets gear and putting some away for the day that the bazztard coupons sell.

don’t blame alderson. the coupons have done all of this purposefully and without remorse. their business venture has failed and they are in debt management mode. the sooner they are out of baseball the better off for the city and baseball as well. f- them. BBOOYYCCOOTT !! it’s the only way to be rid of them. make them sell now sooner than later. don’t pay ur cable company for SNY. don’t buy their clothes, souvenirs or stadium tickets.

Ive been saying it this whole year, the Mets will not spend money to improve! The Wilpons need to save money and they won’t risk their coffers becoming barren because of a few ball players. They will continue to undermine the traditions of this franchise by looking out only for their interests.
i will sum it up,.. BBOOYYCCOOTT the team and F-THE COUPONS ! hit ‘em where it hurts (have’nt they hurt us enough ?) if it’s not profitable they will have to sell the team !
It is a sad day that we all knew was coming. Jose’ is the second greatest homegrown player in Mets history and it is just that now – all history! What a travesty that he is gone (to a better place) without even an offer from trhe Mets. WHAT A DISGRACE! No Mets games for me for at least several years. When in Florida, I will try to catch some Marlins games to root for Jose’. Citifield can burn down as much as I care.
Our self-appointed genius GM labeled Jose’ as eyewash for a team that is not good enough to obtain value from his talents. What an insult! That alone should have convinced Jose’ to walk. Thanks SA for nothing. Why don’t you take a hike off a cliff. I will drive you there personally if you wish.
Next up – David. SA should be starting his campaign shortly to insult him so he can sign with an aggressive team somewhere outside of NY. Let’s continue to flush out the eyewash and see how far into the cellar we can bury ourselves.
My prediction stands, it will be at least 2020 before the rebuilding begins. We are still in self-destruction mode now and rebuilding is far off in the future.

there will be no rebuilding until the coupons leave. next they will begin recycling chewing tobacco and gum, recycling sunflower seed shells as compost and laying off another 5percent of non baseball staff. also they will probably ask non baseball staff to make higher contributions to health plans. of course, NONE OF THE MONEY SAVED WILL BE SPENT TO IMPROVE THE TEAM ON THE FIELD ! i will say it again,… F- THE COUPONS !! they make the spending of the Grant family look like Donald Trump !
