I would trade Davis and Niese only if there was going to be a Prince to be signed to play first base. Those two moves would actually give us a chance to finish in the top three.

CONSIDERING THE COMPETITION DIFFERENTIAL BEWTWEEN THE AL WEST & NL EAST I DON’T PERCEIVE GONZALEZ A HUGE UPGRADE OVER NIESE. AFTER I READ OAKLAND WANTED NIESE+DAVIS FOR GONZALEZ, I NEARLY CJOKED IN ASTONISHMENT THAT ALDERSON DIDN’T BLOCK HIS PHONE FRROM BEANE CALLS.

IT CONCERNS ME THAT ALDERSON HASN’T REALLY SEEN DAVIS PLAY FOR MORE THAN 1 MONTH & HAS MISSED THE FAN POPULARITY THE KID HAS DEVELOPED IMO, DAVIS MORESO THAN WRIGHT SHOULD HAVE THE “UNTOUCHABLE” LABEL.

I would pass on Gio. Gio to myself is an overrated 3SP like Jon Niese although better than Niese. Too high of a BB/9 the past 2 seasons north of 4 which is a recipe for a losing pitcher. Gio has been fortunate with his walks because his LOB% the past 2 seasons has been a high 77.6% which is Roy Halladay like for a SP and abnormal for a pitcher of his ilk and IMO is not sustainable for him. Gio also pitches in a very favorable home park to pitchers and the past 2 seasons has been a split- home-road P.

Got around to checking. His home/road splits are awful.

You gotta watch these Oakland and San Diego guys.

Conversely, you can buy low on Cincy guys. Harang was a double beneficiary of this last year, going from Cincy to SD. I’d guess CJ Wilson will get a nice bump going from Tex to LAA this year.

That’s one reason I wanted Cordero over Francisco.

I’d trade Mejia in a heatbeat to get Gio. I can’t see him as anything other than a (potentially very good) closer. His body/frame and the torque he has on his body doesn’t translate to a long career, in my humble opinion.
