Carlos Beltran Getting Interest from Cardinals
Former Met Carlos Beltran is receiving interest from several teams including the Red Sox, Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Rays.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Beltran is being extensively looked at by the Cardinals as an offensive alternative. With Albert Pujols now in Anahiem, the Cards are looking at everyone in order to replenish their offense. If the Cardinals pickup Carlos Beltran, then its going to be interesting to see if he still has gas left in the tank (as far as the knee is concerned).
It would make more sense for Beltran to join an American League team as a DH. If the Cardinals got him on more than a 2-year deal (which may be the most he will get), then they are out of their mind.
Do you think the Cardinals will grab Beltran? Does he make more sense as a DH in the AL? What are your thoughts?
Thoughts from Joe D.:
I think it’s a good move for the Cards. Berkman goes back to first base where he belongs and a 3-4-5 of Beltran, Holliday and Berkman is still pretty impressive.

If the Cards sign him, you think he challenges Wainright to throw that curve in BP again?
Oh, man…..we’ll never forget, will we?
I would think Carlos would prolong his career more with an AL team. However, I’m sure he sees himself still as an everyday OF. He always keeps himself in great shape but unfortunately, his knees are 10 years older than he is. Time will tell.
Either way, one of my all time favorite Mets and I wish him luck – except when our pitchers are facing him.
It is nice to see a real Mets fan who appreciated a former player and wishes him well. Carlos Beltran performed well for the Mets despite his bad knees and the knock on him for the way his last surgery was handled in terms of a delay may well have been just another poor bit of communication by the front office of the team. It would be nice as the team is rebuilding these days if the medical staff and the front office did a better job in keeping players healthy and being honest of the situations involved. It seems like the Mets would rather string along the media and fans with a two week rest prognosis instead of a two month reality of the injuries.
Thank you for saying Anaheim, and not Los Angeles!
The Cardinals as a franchise have a way of rejuventating careers. Lance Berkman is an excellent example. It is such a great baseball city, guys really like to play there. Carlos Beltran could be a good fit with this team.
I think Carlos is the best position player the Mets ever had. No need to banish him to the American League when some of the National League’s right fielders are works in progress. He’s certainly better right now than Lucas Duda in RF.
Having made my points, I don’t think Carlos is a fit now with the Mets, based on the stingy budget the Wilpon’s and Sandy are using.
There’s no chance the Mets will even think of competing with those 4 teams for Carlos. This FO will only go for the easy signings of players no one else would give the light of day.
It makes sense for the Cards.
Beltran showed last year that the knees are not as bad as everyone assumed.
Will he miss some games, of course all players do There were only 20 Players in all of baseball that played more than 155 Games.
He won’t make up for the loss of Pujols though.
And they will still have the option of trading him to an AL team should their season turn to crap by the time the deadline hits.
I’d really like to see Beltran sign with the Red Sox. Red Sox need a right fielder and I would get to see Beltran play every day…a win-win for all!
