The thing about statistics is that they only tell you part of the story. His numbers may look good, but he has been anything but dominant as a closer since coming to Minnesota (his All Star numbers came while pitching for the Nationals). I simply believe (as a contact/location pitcher) he's better suited in a set-up role.

Obviously this is just my opinion, but I'm not overly comfortable with having a contact pitcher as the Twin's closer (we lost more than 20 games last year by 1 run).

Maybe you're right though...my phone hasn't exactly been blowing up with GM job offers!

Capps had a bad year last yea, but he was really good the year before(2.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) WHIP, and was an allstar), and he was solid for most of his career(3.51ERA, 1.19 WHIP) . I agree with Ryan, that he's going to bounce back and have a solid season.

There's no reason why he can't bounce back.

Alex and Kay are both right, Capp's is a bum. I've been a Twins fan since I before I can remember...this is huge for you guys! I have no idea what Terry Ryan is thinking in bringing this goof back, but at least maybe your front office will find you guys a decent option for a closer. I wish you guys the best next season...the Met's are so talented I hope it happens. My Twin's on the other hand will likely spend the entire season looking up at everyone else in the standings for yet another season because of their cheap owner!

Alex, of course he is a bum, did you expect the Mets to go after quality, productive players? Kay says they called him Crapps, but that's exactly what you could call every player Alderson is keying in on this offseason.

This guy is a bum, i don't know the lovefest for this guy, but the funnier story should be how we're probably gonna get someone who's cheaper i.e somebody nobody wanted at our price to come and close games, then of course, the ivy leaguer with proper speaking manner will tell us "we're not conceiding 2012, see, i got you a closer"... this is pathetic...

A friend of mine is a lifelong Twins fans and he's really pissed his team for this, they called him Matt Crapps for all the blown games last year.

However, since the Mets didnt' sign him, just another reason to hate the FO in Mets fans minds.

When you're broke you can't shop at the big department stores. You can't even shop at Khols. You have to buy your items at the dollar store.

It's just too bad Selig won't step in and do what he did in LA (remove McCourt) to the Wilpons.

In fact some reporter has to ask Bud the question as to why the Wilpons have gotten better treatment than McCourt did? Because the Mets are in equal financial trouble.

If Capps is what you get on the open market, might as well just use someone from the minors, since capps pretty much is mediocre at best anyway.

Pay for quality. Not just to get somebody.

You sound surprised. Why? the mets will wait until the market dries up before they commit to a closer. that way they can get the absolute bottom feeder type of player while preaching patience.
This is their new modus operandi, it will not change for the present time.

Lol, I can imagine that encounter.

"You want $4 million!? We'll get back to you...never."

This made sense, though. Dotel will probably return to the Cards as well.
