Once I know the direction, then I can answer it…What Sandy is saying and what my eyes see are two completely different things.

Sadly, until this Wilpon/Ponzie thing is settled…I don’t think this team will ever get a true direction.

But I don’t like the idea that “They have to make make money before they can spend it”, I’m sorry, but that’s not the correct direction for a team in NY.

I especially don’t like the idea that we should purge our current roster and hope that players in AA can win for us in 3-4 years.

Metsie, we’re not going anywhere in two dimensional space, players to and fro, mostly to. But in three dimensions, we’re moving out — straight down. Sad but true.

Well I don’t personally see a direction yet which is why I am unhappy.

Looks more to me that the FO is merely spinning in place hoping centrifigal force will throw off all the big salaries!

And I fear this spinning will continue until 2014 until Santana and Bay get thrown off as well.

If we were truly trying to rebuild from within then we would not have let guys like Nickeas, Pridie and Evans go searching for work and would have packaged them with something else to get something for the future.

I’ll accept the notion that they are not going to be a part of the future success of the franchise on their own but they were very tradable commodities when packaged that if it got us even ONE potential player would have been better than what we are doing with them.

Omar bought his competitivness Cashen on the other end Traded for it while he was drafting.

We seem to be spinning in place hoping salary gets throw off and I for one see not one move that has made this team competitive in the next 5 years!

The Wilpons’s didn’t allow Omar Minaya to open the vaults for free agents? Are you nuts? What would you call Pedro Martinez, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, and Jason Bay.

Am I happy with the direction of the team now? If I am a realist, yes. I would know that the right thing to do is to wait before making an offer to Jose Reyes. Signing him again is a business decision and a very risky one at that. Until that situation is decided, not much else will be done.

There are still many other huge question marks too!

2012 will not be a good year for this team in terms of being a playoff team but with some luck and a bounce back from Wright and Bay, and the comeback of Ike Davis we can have hope for the future as our young pitching prospects mature in the minor leagues!

It’s hard to say if I’m happy with the direction or not. This is Sandy’s 2nd yr, need to see how it plays out. It’s gonna take some time, can’t ask for a miracle after only one year of his regime. I am very interested in what he’s gonna do with the team this offseason though

I think the Wilpons financial problems, part of why they brought in SA, will tie the hands of the FO despite rumors, statements and assurances.
I know of past bad signings and no quality being added to farms system but just trying to build from within with the current crop of “potential” “future” stars leaves the question, You can’t build a winning team strictly from minors can you?
I hope I’m wrong and they show that they are headed in a right direction by re-signing Jose and extending David so these two Mets Gems can be part of the “new” winning ways!

I don’t think they’re choosing a direction but rather the direction has been given to them. It is a direction which has been crippled by the Mets front office through all of the legal messes they have gotten into. It has proven to be very costly and limits any type of regrowth for this team for the coming years.

Let’s not get too carried away with this “Last 25 years” talk because I hear it a lot. I don’t like the Wilpons either but it’s not all their fault.

Being a Mets fan you should be well aware of some classic gut wrenching losses ON THE FIELD either in post season games or games leading up to the post season.

It’s not like the Mets haven’t had the chance to change their destiny – playing baseball on the field – during those 25 years because they’ve had more than their fair share of opportunities and we just flat out lost some big games.

I can’t say I am pleased with the direction of the team given a 25 year drought since their last World Championship team. The prospects for a return to winning ways seems dim for the next few years unless they get very lucky. Then add in the Madoff factor and what you get is a lot of BS with no winning. It is a shame how things have gone for a team that used to dominate the New York baseball scene. The Wilpons should be ashamed except they have no shame.

I haven’t liked the direction of the Mets since Wilpon bought out Nelson Doubleday. I don’t blame any of the GM’s for what has transpired during this period. Many of them were either handcuffed by not going over slot in the draft, or simply not having money to spend accordingly.
