Now, Kevin Goldstein is reporting that all potential IFAs have to declare publicly with MLB.

Basically killing any incentive at all to scout heavily in Latin America or keep those academies open.

Personally I don't see why all the Whining from the low spenders.

They no longer have to worry about paying too much to sign their picks or overslot, They don't have to worry that they are (NOW) cut out of international signings because the Yankees can afford to post 50 Mil for the right to talk to Yu Darvish.

The only ones who get hurt here are the Moneyballers who think spending 36-66 Mil is spending market value!

They weren't spending anyway and the only thing that hurts them is they don't get to keep those costs down by getting a ton of picks for not keeping guys they should be keeping if they cared about winning and actually being competitive!

What confuses me is why the draft and IFAs came up. Its not like big market teams never spent or that small market teams were being outspent. It was never big market vs small market. I was teams that did the work there vs teams that didn't.

And then people will say this was to control spending. It will have the exact opposite effect, as now teams will cut even bigger checks for free agents driving prices up.
