Video: Sandy Alderson Updates Jose Reyes Situation
Tonight on the MLB Network, Sandy Alderson spoke briefly about the Jose Reyes situation. One key point was that from his stand point, the length of a contract is typically more difficult to swallow than the dollars. Another point he spoke about was the relationship Reyes has with Mets fans and how that effects what the Mets will do.
Both Reyes and Alderson have kept the lines of communication open, and the two sides have remained in contact throughout the early going of this free agency process.
Sandy Alderson feels confident that Jose Reyes will come to him before he accepts any offer and give the Mets an opportunity to match or beat the offer.
This is baseball, and like Yogi Berra once said, “it ain’t over till it’s over.”

I get it: Alderson does not want to offer a five-plus year deal.
I think a four-year deal should be max with guidelines for how that gets extended.
What he says about fans meant something significant to me.
Alderson certainly isn’t an excitable type.
If the mets dont resign jose, I may take a repreve from baseball, Jose is the most EXCITING player to put on a mets uniform since you brough Mike Piazza here. I Love him, I know he gets hurts ever so often but this Mets team will not be the same without him…and the thought of seeing him in another uniform I just cant see “especially” a Miami Marlin uniform… Please…
Maybe starting with something like “We would like Jose back, I want him back, I think we have a better chance of fighting for the post season next year with him and I’ve let him know that myself so maybe we can come to some type of agreement based on what we can give him. I know the competition for Jose is tough out there but we will do our best to retain him, I can promise the fans that.
or something along those lines. Again no mention of “wanting to win” or “wanting to compete”.
This guy is as cold and calculated as they come and if i didn’t dislike him so much as a Mets fan I can still imagine myself feeling like I can take or leave this guy anyway.
I don’t like this guy one bit
Would you feel better if the guy just gave you a hug? A blanket and a glass of warm milk maybe?
Fans with half a brain, are not looking for someone to “like” but someone who will get the job done, which if you have the guts to stick around, may just take a few years? Do you have the guts? I know you don’t.
a few years? more like ten.
