Hate to break the news to you, but even though teams will not lose their first round picks for signing these closers, their old teams will get an extra first round pick plus a sandwich pick. Hey Lerner, you may want to update your post to include this information before more uninformed readers/writers start popping off like jessep just did.

This creates a larger market for all of those relievers.

they are not receiving anybody’s 1st round pick or 2nd round pick. Thus devaluing the compensation the Mets could have gotten for KRod.

A sandwich pick is not a 1st round draft pick.

I seem to recall when KRod was dealt the vocal minority here seemed to stick to the fact that the Mets would now lose out on getting another teams draft pick because “he would have restructured for the Mets and become a free agent.” Now I am sure there will be some new excuse, but clearly that point is now null and void.

Secondly, I like that they are ditching the rankings and you can only get comp with a qualifying offer. It puts the pressure on smaller market teams to try and win now and not stockpile picks, plus it doesn’t place a false value on a player.
