I did not say “the Mets didn’t give him a chance,” I said, “I still hope they give him more of a shot than the Mets did.” I agree, there were times when Evans was horrible for the Mets when he was given a shot…however, other than his 2009 minor league campaign, since 2007, he has batted around .300 with double digit HR’s per season. Granted, I don’t think a good minor league career always translates to a good major league career, but I do think that being consistently good in the minors could translate to a decent MLB contributor, so I am hopeful he is able to prove himself as such in Pittsburgh.

He has small chance of being regular in Pittsburgh. He’s not getting an outfield job. Tabata in right, McCutcheon in center and Pressley in left are locks. Alvarez will be given another chance to produce at third and they are trying to re-sign Lee at first. His only chance is for a platoon job at first with Garrett Jones if they can’t keep Lee. Otherwise he’s in same boat as he was in New York.

I don’t think the Mets were unfair with Evans. He’s had chances parts since 2008 and sometimes he was just real bad. But to say the Mets didn’t give him a chance is not accurate and beside we have Ike Davis now. I did say that Evans could have been a nice righty complement/fill in for Ike.

Well anyway god forbid something happens to Ike’s ankle again than the only guys that play 1B are Duda and Murphy. If they didn’t want Evans I thought he could have been decent trade bait, anyway i wish him luck

Always liked this guy. I hope he goes to Pittsburgh and puts up a .275/20 HR season…however, it is a minor league deal, so the statement “Evans could thrive in Pittsburgh where he will get what he never got with the Mets – regular playing time and a real opportunity to see what he is truly capable of.”…is not completely accurate, but I still hope they give him more of a shot than the Mets did.

I always liked Nick. Will be interesting to see what he does with a regular job (if he gets one).

And Jason Bay would kill for those numbers!

For the depth, they do still have a few open spots, and who knows what happens via trade, but you have to figure they will add a few of these AAAA/ready to call up types to the organization.

Or, if you get caught short, you go find one in season.

The Mets have now lost quite a bit of their 4A depth in Evans, Misch and Pridie in case of injury at the ML level. Stay healthy guys or the Mets are going to be in a lot of trouble next season with so many 40 man roster spots tied-up by prospects or possible prospects that are not ready to play in the bigs yet.
