  If they end up getting him for just cash, I’d say this is a good move. He’s about as good a bench player as you can have and provides some pretty decent power in a pinch.

      From reading the article in the morning philly paper, they are only considering him as a corner IF BU and bat off the bench. Hopefully that is not where the Mets need the bench help! Plus they already have Murphy.

      given the Phils issues at 3B and 1B though, perfect fit for them.

  I’m starting to come to the realization that every time any MLB players signs or gets traded to another team, we’ll have comments about Sandy Alderson and how much people hate him.

  I think the Mets should consider petitioning Bud Selig to allow them a 75 an roster while everybody else still gets a 40 man

    Why would the Mets be in on this? Like Any said above, the Mets have about 15 1B back ups and 12 3B back ups. Where does Wiggy and his .242 average (and 4+ million salary) fit on this team?

      I failed to clarify my comment. We are standing still because of the Reyes debacle and yes I call it a debacle. Alderson came out of the winter meetings wishy washy, why, cause Reyes’ negotiations are not settled. If you don’t know hiw much your offer is going to be or accepted you can’t figure your payroll so other players dangle while the Mets dawdle. I say cut Reyes loose. We are not a contending team with him so why play is this arena? And yes the Phillies are shoring up their team if Howard can’t play for an extended period and he is not the player he once was and will be gone from the Phillies in a year.

    will, after being called a genius now sandy’s followers are coming to the realization that the man was just brought here to slash payroll and GTFO, he had no intention of winning whatsoever, is a shame but i’ve said it all year, NOW, his legion of sabergoons here in MMO are little by little coming to the conclusion of “well, he was here to help the mets financially”.. is pathetic and down right embarrassing that after defending him by kissing his as-s now all these people are seeing the man for what he is.

      Alex, don’t worry no matter what they write they are going to continue to sell his bs, they like the access but what they fail to understand is the mets are becoming irreverent and they can have all the access they want it does not matter because the mets are losing fans faster than the US rings up debt and we have sandy to thank for another offseason of doing nothing.

  I wish we had Ruben Amaro and his GED Diploma for GM instead of the Ivy Leaguers we got saddled with who seem to be happy doing nothing and watching the rest of the division keep getting better.

    What has the rest of the division done? Phillies signed two bench players and a closer. What have the rest of the teams done in the division, or in MLB for that matter?

      I don’t think he’s talking just about this offseason – He’s also talking about last year, and the trading deadline.

      Phillies have signed Lee, traded for Pence, lost Madson, but signed Papelbon.

      Braves have traded for Bourn and Uggla.

      While we have traded Beltran, K-Rod, and technically Reyes is no longer a Met.

      They are getting better, and we are getting worse – That’s a fact.

              the only thing that is old is sandy doing nothing to improve the team, yet he has people like you who kiss his feet. when he does something other than set the mets franchise back 50 years, i will say so. the sny rating are in the toilet, the stands are empty and yet for some reason you think we have this great gm. it’s funny that only the writers on this site support him and my guess is they like hearing his hot air up close and personnel. get a clue before we wake up as the cubs.
