If The Team Values Innings Pitched, Why Do They Let Pelfrey Pitch So Many Of Them?

mike-pelfrey-mets-tight-file-29e613e8891108a4_large

While reading about a rumor that the Mets and Rockies discussed a potential Mike Pelfrey for Huston Street swap on MetsBlog, I came across this comment by Matt Cerrone regarding Pelfrey. It’s something he never fails to say whenever he mentions Mike Pelfrey: “The team values innings pitched and, at the very least, he delivers them and with potential.” What does that even mean? I can assure you that Sandy Alderson would never make such [...]

Mets Sign Vinny Rottino and Valentino Pascucci

val pascucci (5)

Mets just made it official: The New York Mets today announced they have signed first baseman Val Pascucci and catcher/outfielder Vinny Rottino to minor league contracts and invited both to major league Spring Training. Pascucci, who turns 33 today, split last season between Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and the Mets.  He hit the first pinch-hit home run of his career on September 24 off Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels. The 6-6, 270-pounder appeared in 130 [...]

My Recession Mets Wish List

Being that we are in a “Met-conomic downturn” if you will, the coveted free agents this winter are nothing more than overpriced commodities the Mets can only stare agape at through a store window while other teams snatch them off the shelves. Instead, the Amazin’s are forced to look in the “Clearance Sale” bin and try to find a nice bargain. Here are some of those who I think could be a nice, economy fit [...]

Mets Telling Teams Murphy Is Available

Daniel Murphy point

A source has told ESPN’s Adam Rubin that Daniel Murphy is available. In conversations with other teams at the GM Meetings in Milwaukee this week, a source confirmed the Mets informed other teams that Daniel Murphy is “available.” This goes against an earlier report that said the front office sees Murphy as the starting second baseman if they cannot retain Jose Reyes. But then again, that could have just been the team trying to do some quick [...]

Q&A With Mack Ade from Mack’s Mets

14094_1327953292672_1646156304_804804_2423639_n

I caught up with Mack Ade of Mack’s Mets for a Q&A about the Savannah Sand Gnats the other day. Mack was nice enough to answer a whole lot of questions about the Mets farmhands that passed through Savannah this past season. Which players are going to advance to St. Lucie next year? Which players will stay back in Savannah? Which ones are prospects? And which are suspects? Keep reading to find out what Mack [...]

Alderson Meets With Reps For RHP Matt Capps

matt capps

As I posted last night, Newsday’s Ken Davidoff confirmed that the Mets met with the representatives for free agent RHP Frank Francisco. Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger is reporting that Sandy Alderson also met with the representative for reliever Matt Capps. Last season with the Minnesota Twins, relief pitcher Matt Capps went 4-7 with 15 saves and a 4.25 ERA. The Mets GM has made revamping of the bullpen one of his top priorities this offseason after seeing [...]

Endy Chavez On Mets Radar

Endy_Chavez

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, says the Mets are tossing around the idea of bringing back outfielder Endy Chavez. According to one high-ranking team insider, the Mets are open to a second stint in Flushing for the free agent outfielder, and have discussed Chavez — albeit in a very informal and preliminary way — with agent Peter Greenberg. Although there have not yet been any serious talks or negotiations, Mets brass considers Chavez a fit for [...]

Ike Davis: I Am Back and I Feel Great

ike-davis

Yesterday afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets hosted a special media event to announce their plans for the Mets 50th Anniversary celebration in 2012 which you can read about here and here. One of the players on hand was first baseman Ike Davis and he was a sight for sore eyes. Davis was in great spirits and regarding his health declared, “I’m healthy. I’m back. I feel great and I’m ready to go.” Davis is happy [...]

Video: Sandy Alderson Updates Jose Reyes Situation

Screenshot_9

Tonight on the MLB Network, Sandy Alderson spoke briefly about the Jose Reyes situation. One key point was that from his stand point, the length of a contract is typically more difficult to swallow than the dollars. Another point he spoke about was the relationship Reyes has with Mets fans and how that effects what the Mets will do. Both Reyes and Alderson have kept the lines of communication open, and the two sides have remained [...]
