I agree with Mack Ade- IMO, some team looking for a cheap, rookie 5SP might take Dylan in the Rule 5 draft and give him a look see in ST. Dylan is really not that bad (especially after Bones improved him). An inconsistent Dillon Gee type which isn’t the worst thing in the world as a minimum wage 5SP.

Well Xtreem is the one who argued that you don’t use kids unless they are ready, Ready for what he couldn’t say!

My feeling is that if we are resigned to losing a lot in 2012 then it stands to reason to try out those inexperienced kids we think are not part of the future, Try to get them some experience where their learning curve really isn’t hurting us,
Hope an MLB pitching coach can fix whatever their problem is or see if maybe with a MLB catcher calling pitches they learn something they can’t in the Minors and if they bust we lost nothing because they get sent away as quickly as some guy we took a 1 Mil lark on!

If we are going to TRULY get the financial situation in order the biggest savings is on all these ROLE and FILLERs that we pay multi millions for but don’t do much more than a league minimum kid can do!

I don’t personally agree with the WAR metric but I agree with it’s notion that if you can get the same from a MiL player as you get from a 1-5 Million guy then go with the Kid!
Use those millions to keep the few guys who DO deserve more money!

You see this is the type of Kid that would not be such a bad Pen Fill in for us instead of spending money on another Boyer type FA that we intend to get as a fill in!

The kid pitched all year in AAA and maybe it’s time to test him against MLB pitching!
No he’s not expected to be great but he is sevicable and cheap, much cheaper than the servicable player we intend to spend a million or more on to shore up the bullpen!

Metsie, I agree and slightly disagree with you.

Last year Dylan Owen had a 7+ ERA in 10 AAA games. When Boyer was grabbed that’s pretty much all the new FO had to look at.

I am very pro filling the bullpen up with young arms. It seems to work for every other MLB team rather than consistently grab free agents to fill the bullpen.

I would be interested to see what Owen can do in a relief role in 2012 though
