I’d like nothing better than to see Wright and Reyes celebrating post season with wet cigars hanging out of their mouths, with champagne flowing, and their arms on each other shoulders.

These are two different situations and should be handled as such. Unlike Reyes, Wright will most like not give the Mets any sign me by spring training or I’m out ultimatums like Reyes did. Wright may not send out feelers that his deal must be six figures and start with a one. Two different circumstances and two different caliber of players and personalities.

Wright said his gut feeling is that Reyes will be wearing “orange and blue” in 2012.

I hope he’s write or the 2012 Mets will draw far less fans than the 1962 team. Could be that in 50 years we went from lovable losers to laughable losers.

X – Yes, as they would say in a court of law, that is a pretty damning statement for Wright to make. It may come back to haunt him. But it may also be a sign that Wright would give the Mets a team friendly deal? That said, I still say sign both or none.

If David Wright is re-signed being a year older than Reyes and in a 3-year decline, I will wonder why they chose to keep him and not Reyes. Right now I’m still hoping they sign Reyes, but if they dont and then Wright starts getting treated like royalty then I will be very upset. Sign both or lose both, and if you sign one it should be the better player.

“You want to sign good players, but also you have to have a plan,” Wright said. “Just because you have some money left over, you can’t just go out there and start handing out these big, long, crazy contracts. That’s kind of what got us into a little bit of trouble.”

Wright may have put himself in a tough spot unintentionally. I think he’s almost required now to give the Mets a hometown discount when he hits the market based on that comment. If he holds out for more money after saying that, a lot could blow up in his face.

In the end, it is all about winning. But in the end, should Wright be moved, he’ll still hold a special place with me in this teams lore. Much like Mattingly or Winfield did with the Yanks.
