His Speed might at best inflates his SLG as he gets third where most guys get doubles!

He gave Reyes a lowball offer compared to lets say Crawford, but thats knowing that with all the interest they have showed Reyes that Reyes will not just sign somewhere else without at least calling them.

Reyes won’t talk to us until he has a deal he is ready to sign and if Sandy even HINTS that he might not be interested at that number, Reyes will sign that deal and thumb his nose at Sandy!

I’m sure most teams already do that. In any business, salary is only a portion of the cost of personnel. MLB also has mandatory disability insurance for all players.

However, 5 years is still considered long term and we don’t know what other offers Reyes is actually going to get.

Someone may very well see a Crawford type deal for him as agood idea.
