Sandy Alderson has never whined, and that is yet another juvenile comment from his detractors. No one, not one person has said he’s a success, more twisting of verbiage, what those that are not calling for his head are the ones mature enough to know that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Frank Cashen took 4 years to build a success, yet Sandy Alderson isn’t even given one year? Come on………

Even when Omar took over, he didn’t make his first splash until Mid December…….yet from Day one of this off season, the witch hunt has been on.

So far the only plan he seems to have stuck to was to reduce payroll by letting it expire.
And regardless of what you think about the players we got back (Wheeler, Herrera and Rosario) truth is All Sandy really accomplished there was to allow them to expire from the 2012 budget because we paid most of their salary to get those three players. Two All Stars for one first rounder and two honorable mentions?

He seems to be planning to take the picks and run on Reyes but that plan means if no one tops the Marlins offer we are going to get at best two 2nd round picks (31+) out of it. Is that really a great deal? Good return?

You have to wonder how smart is Sandy for constantly whining about his inability to sign and pay players basically bending over for the MLB GMs during negotiations and saying “Be Gentle” when talking deals.

It is this whining that told the Marlins they only had to offer Reyes 90M for 6 years because thats right about the number Sandy has publicly said he is close to un-comfortable with.

Other than letting high salaried players walk I have seen no plan going forward. At best you can say his plan involves building via the draft which is fine for a team who is already competitive enough to take the slow boat to china but not exactly the kind of plan that gives promise and confidence to the folks who will have to decide if those season tickets should be renewed, solving the issue that forced the Payroll purge in the first place!

I don’t see one problem that has been solved since he got here other than the payroll slashing. And looking at what he has been spending it on it’s not apparent he is even saving money just redistributing it from one player who wasn’t worth it to 10 players who are not worth it either!

Is it too soon to say fire him? Of course it is but while it IS too soon to call him a failure is just as much TOO SOON to call him a success and many here are trying to do!

He’s done nothing but tread water so far, redistributed the wealth and so far has made no major changes other than purging three of our four All Star players!
And what he got back for them won’t contribute for 2 or 3 years at best with the exception of maybe Herrera who will probably be in our BP this year!

Three All stars and Herrera is it?
Is that really the plan going forward and what we can expect for the next three years?
If so Sandy could be the shortest term GM since McIlvane!
Cause people will give you a year of grace as you did.
People will accept another transitional year in 2012.
But by 2013 if they don’t see something to give them hope the Calls to fire Sandy will be fast loud and furious!

And then whatever PLAN people thinks he has is gone and what shape will we be in for the next guy?

I’m sure as was the case when Omar got the boot, People will say the next guy had nothing to work with!

Every MLB franchise has the same “long term plan” when things are not going well. It’s how you do it that matters

Here are a few things:
Hire the best on field and amateur scouts you can
Actively scout other teams minor league systems for potentially undervalued players
Have a clear organizational message when it comes to the type of players you look for
Hire the best minor league coaches/instructors you can
Draft the best possible players
Don’t waste your picks on old free agents who force you to over spend
Keep your young players as healthy as possible
Be very involved in the International Free Agent pool
Know when to hold em and when to fold em – with regard to trading veteran players for young return
Have a clear idea of when your young players could be ready to make a big league impact.

That’s a long term.

You have no long term plan!
All you have is your list of cheap crap your ready to sign so you don’t have to play Tejada, Duda, Turner and Gee!

Nothing in your plan said anything about making this team better, or building it up to fix long term problems in 2013 and 2014!

I think the average fan is clueless about the intricacies of the job. Beyond the technical requirements, insulting differing views is a non-starter. It’s juvenile.

This whole Bayonne for GM thing started because Bayonne read what he wanted to read and I called him out for it. Be honest. Nowhere in Alderson’s statement did he say he dislikes face to face discussion with other GMs. Admit it. He clearly said he prefers confidential and that in a setting like GM Meetings, its hard to do have any confidentiality because all the other GMS as well as Media are hanging around

At the winter meetings, everybody and their mother hangs out at 1 bar during the early evening. Everybody. I’ve seen people from Tommy Lasorda, Omar Minaya, Karl Ravech, Peter Gammons and Barry Bonds within feet of one another at the winter meetings. Even that is different from the GM meetings because MORE people go, but the difference is each team is assigned rooms and sections to conduct business in private and those rooms are not released to the public.

It has nothing to do with wanting to avoid people and simply text them and everything to do with dealing in private, 1 on 1. So you’re accusing Alderson of NOT wanting to do something that he DOES want to do.

Lastly, maybe there isn’t an “outcry” because people like myself realize that maybe Alderson is here to help with a bigger problem than who is the Mets backup catcher? There is clearly a problem with ownership and the cash flow here and while you look for the easy way out and blame a guy who just got here, I look at the people that CREATED the problem… not the guy who is trying to figure out a way to fix it.

Write MLB and tell them you all can be better GM’s and ask for Alderson to be fired, tell them what you know, send a resume, do something already.

I never said I was “more qualified” in fact that concept never crossed my mind. I’m just so angry right now and I know i can do a better job but i would need the help of a few people here who know more in certain areas than I do. But as far as getting the fan base enthused and trying to make this team a winner with the money we have i don’t see how I could not do a better job than Alderson. He’s doing TERRIBLE. Absolutely horrendous and I don’t understand why there isn’t more of an outcry by now. Imagine if he did this type of job back in the day?????? Imagine not trying to win????? Even when the Mets were bad they always tried to win and would never admit that it’s not our year. They would word it differently yes but not be like it is today with all kinds of players being picked up by other teams so early in the off season that can help the Mets! It’s unbelievable.

It’s like people who made jokes when Jesse Ventura became Gov of Minn or Al Franken became Senator. It can be done. Will it get done? Of course not but I wish i could.
