The Mets not only need a closer – they need an entire bullpen.

They also need a second baseman, a catcher, an outfielder – possibly a shortstop who can hit better than that punch and judy Tejada.

They also need a couple of good starters.

Somebody better tell Sandy about what the Mets need.

sandy isn’t going to spend that much on relief i don’t care what he says.he is not going to improve the team.

I think Sandy right now is trying to swing a trade for a modestly priced closer because the remaining FA closing options are either too pricey- Madson, Bell ,Cordero& K-Rod or too questionable- Capps or Francisco. I think Sandy is trying to swing a trade for the Rangers Koji Uehara to serve as the Mets closer for just 4MM next season. But who would Sandy offer Daniels for him.The Rangers bullpen right now for 2012 is kinda pricey for their overall payroll with Nathan at 7MM, Feldman at 6.5MM, Uehara at 4MM and Adams at app. 3.5-4MM.

I agree with you Brandon. Matt Capps is really not a closing option for the Mets and I don’t think he is on Sandy’s radar.

The problem is Sandy wants to split that 8-9MM on 2 relievers both a closer and 8th inn set-up man. I don’t think Sandy trusts either Bobby Parnell or Manny Acosta with the 8th inn. set-up man role.

Your probably right Sach, but at the same time Joel Sherman of the NY Post says the Mets are willing to spend $8-10 million dollars, and are also willing to go more than 1-year with any reliever. (Source: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/citi_planners_1QyWDadGqdqJuwa6Jo6sXM/1)

Would you want the Mets to get someone like Matt Capps, who pretty much is a middle-reliever close games for this team? We all remember what happens when you do that right? It doesn’t really help us any.

I still think Sandy is thinking more in terms of 5MM for a closer and 3.5MM-4MM for a good 8th inn. set-up man that can co-close in certain situations.

I don’t think Cordero is a real option for the Mets. He’s just too pricey. Cordero earned 12MM per the past 3 seasons and like Nathan and K-Rod isn’t going to take that big of a pay cut. He’s also seeking a multiyear contract.
