I don’t think this is going to happen. Like Lou said, Bobby V has a very lucrative TV deal and I don’t he’s interested in going to a mess like Boston to start off.

I think the Yanks would disagree when it comes to Hideki Matsui. Yes he isn’t a Yankee anymore but he brought them a WS ring. You can’t say A-Rod and his crappy playoff RBI total did that.

Yu Darvish is a tall, strong guy, not the average size for an Asian sports star. His physique helps him be a power pitcher.

I don’t doubt it, but how many times have we seen Japanese stars come here and have trouble? Outside of Ichiro who is a HOF’er in my view, and probably Nomo early on, not many have thrived.

He’s going to get a ton more media attention, its a different style game, and he’s going to get a huge contract.

It’s a risk no matter his size. It could very well pay off, I’m just saying teams that got burned by this process will remember that

No but it means they will certainly be more cautious. If you don’t learn from your mistakes, what good are you?

Whoever gets Darvish is going to pay a TON not only for 1st negotiation rights but in his contract. It’s a HUGE HUGE investment, and to say the Dice K experience is not in the back of their minds is simply silly.

Well for starters, we don’t know how hot and heavy they are for Yu. It’s not like their Dice K plan really worked out that well.

I agree it may help but I don’t think it lands Darvish or is the main reason behind Bobby V. I think the Red Sox are in dire need to appear like they have fixed the problem.

To me though, Bobby V is a players manager and when you have a team that turned on a Manager like Francona, a guy like V will not change that culture. In fact, most Red Sox fans I know personally are not happy about this.

I would think a guy like Ichiro in Seattle is a greater selling point for a kid like Darvish than Bobby V would be. His family also has roots in St. Petersburg, Florida. But also his father has roots to Massachusetts from his high school days.

Interestingly enough Darvish’s pitching coach is former Met Masato Yoshii

I personally think Darvish will stay put another year but who knows. I think he only needs to come out when it appears the market has $ to spend. With high priced guys like pujols, fielder, reyes out there… it may be in his financial best interest to hang tight another year
